I’ve always been drawn to period piece novels and the characters that live within them. The Tea Rose did not disappoint. I look forward to reading more of Jennifer Connelly’s books

Queenie’s story brought Harold’s journey full circle for me. Harold Fry had left me content and relieved that he found his peace but it left me feeling terribly sad for Queenie. With Rachel’s second novel she kindly put it all right in my mind and I was satisfied that both Queenie and Harold got to where they needed to be. ♥️

I laughed out loud, I cried out loud. At times I wanted to shake Harold and tell him to say “No”...but then I understood that living a gentle and kind life may cause you heartache but in the end you can rest easy knowing that you lived your life the only way you knew how, and you did your very best not to hurt anyone along the way. A bit of an emotional roller coaster, but well worth the ride.

Disappointing

Gifted this book and kept one based on a recommendation from a friend. Neither I or my friend were able to complete it. A tough read, repetitive and very grim. I appreciate the historic accuracy of the story but in light of the current pandemic, a true life story of an even more difficult time 100 years ago was just too difficult to listen to.

A fun listen ..

As much as people are struggling these days, I doubt anyone could imagine what people endured during the 30s. A powerful reminder for us all to be grateful for what we have.

I absolutely loved this book. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me cry. If a book doesn’t capture my imagination almost immediately I usually don’t persevere. But that was never going to be a problem with Miss Benson’s Beetle. From the opening lines, to the image I was left with on the last page, it made me want to gobble it up...but not want to let it go. A great read. Thank you Rachel Joyce..and Audible Canada.

A beautiful last chapter to the series. I was unable to take a break between any of the seven books of the Clifton Chronicles because each book was better than the previous one .. culminating in This Was a Man. A thoroughly enjoyable literary journey.

So much written about Donald Trump .. interesting to get a picture of Melania through the author’s close friendship.

I have enjoyed all the JoJo Moyes books and this was no exception. But in a world of seemingly endless sad and disturbing news (2020) I believe I will seek out books that make me smile rather than ones that make me cry.
