Histoire
The number-one New York Times best-selling author of Small Great Things returns with a powerful and provocative new novel about ordinary lives that intersect during a heart-stopping crisis. The warm fall day starts like any other at the Center - a women’s reproductive health services clinic. Then, in late morning, a desperate and distraught gunman bursts in and opens fire, taking all inside hostage. After rushing to the scene, Hugh McElroy, a police hostage negotiator, sets up a perimeter. Then he finds out that his 15-year-old daughter, Wren, is inside the clinic.

An infuriating waste of a credit

I usually enjoy Jodi Picoult, but I can't finish this one. It's tedious. The author goes round and round the issue of abortion until I want to scream--enough already! I'm not even tempted to fast-forward to see who gets out alive and who doesn't--it's that annoying.

An infuriatingly foolish tale told by a weak, stupid woman. The story line lacks credibility--no one could be that much of an idiot. The only saving grace is the narrator.

Meh

Great story line, which kept me interested, but I almost wondered if the author was being paid by the word, as there was much repetition and pontification throughout. Not for anyone with a weak stomach, as there are several violent scenes, which contain graphic details.

Inspector Thomas Lynley of Scotland Yard and his pugnacious and deeply loyal Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers find themselves up against one of the most sinister murder cases they have ever encountered. Fans of the longtime series will love the many characters from past books who join Lynley and Havers, but listeners new to the series will quickly see why Elizabeth George is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed writers of our time.

There were so many concurrent stories that I never tired of this book, despite its length. Well written and well narrated.

Histoire
Two suburban women. Two dark secrets. The almost perfect murder. Everybody needs good neighbours.... Melissa and Hester have lived next door to each other for years. When Melissa's daughter was younger, Hester was almost like a grandmother to her. But recently they haven't been so close. Hester has plans to change all that. It's obvious to her that despite Melissa's outwardly glamorous and successful life, she needs Hester's help.

After enjoying many Dismas Hardy novels, I found this one to be tiresome and predictable. Time for Dismas to retire.
