Along with many of his other books, I read this one years ago. I like to re-read books, once I figure I've sufficiently forgotten enough to re-enjoy, so when I got this Audible membership I decided to listen to some of my old favourites, and naturally, I headed for Mr. Brown! First let name thank Paul Michael for his superb performance of this story, and reminding me how much I enjoy being read to- Thank you!!
This is another great story, fast paced, thought provoking, well written, a pleasure to engage with and I love that I am made to pause and Google search, so much info and many images, in order to stay immersed in the story. My only complaint - is that the perfect combination of a great story and excellent performance, makes me finish the audio version of these books too fast! #Audible1

A thousand years ago evil came to the land and has ruled with an iron hand ever since. The sun shines fitfully under clouds of ash that float down endlessly from the constant eruption of volcanoes. A dark lord rules through the aristocratic families, and ordinary folk are condemned to lives in servitude, sold as goods, labouring in the ash fields. But now a troublemaker has arrived, and there is rumour of revolt.

I really liked this book, and went on to purchase books 2-4 in this series. This was my first introduction to Brandon Sanderson, and I found his writing of the Mistborn series, to be excellent; and I loved the story and the characters, which were well rounded, complicated, and compelling! I loved the supernatural element, and Sanderson's descriptions of the various creatures gave me pictures in my mind that kept me listening around the clock! This is a well written book!!! But Michael Kramer's performance really brought all the characters to life, and now I am also a fan of this narrator! #Audible1

Jane McKeene was born two days before the dead began to walk the battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania - derailing the War Between the States and changing the nation forever. In this new America, safety for all depends on the work of a few, and laws like the Native and Negro Education Act require certain children attend combat schools to learn to put down the dead.

This book was recommended in a podcast I regularly listen to, and it did not disappoint! The story was great; it's set in an alternate universe where slaves are trained to kill zombies! It features a strong female lead, who is intelligent, a revolutionary, and a skilled killer of zombies! She takes no shit from anyone, despite her 'station'.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the narration was excellent! The story focusses more on the 'zombie killing' part, and less on the slavery part - which is great for listeners who are sensitive to the atrocities of slavery. It kept me entertained and I finished the book quickly, listening to it in every spare moment! I highly recommend this audiobook! #Audible1

Loved this book, and the narrator is a big part of the reason why I went on to purchase and thoroughly enjoy, books 2 and 3. But when I tried to purchase books 4-7, I was notified that they are not available for sale/download in Canada ... despite books 4-7 showing up in Audible.ca's book listing... so disappointed!!
There is no indication that books 4-7 will not be accessible in Canada, and had I known I could not complete the series, I would not have purchased books 1-3. I am so let down ... :(
Contacting Audible.ca's customer support and customer content, only resulted in pro-forma responses that did not address this / my issue.
So if you live in Canada - just BE WARNED that, after reading the very enjoyable White Trash Zombie, books 1-3... you will be left hanging and disappointed!
