Koren Bladewell now knows he is a wizard, but he is lost in the wilderness, cut off from help, and unable to use his powers. The enemy is poised at the border with an overwhelming invasion force, and it will take wizards, soldiers and a young, untested princess to hold off defeat long enough for Koren to be trained and grow into his power. But he might not wish to help those who deceived him and destroyed his life.

I was quite enraptured in this series and find it to be a trilogy I would recommend for young and old alike! A lovely, albeit predictable, ending to a pleasant story. I found I couldn’t stop listening! Would recommend! #Audible1

It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

I cannot praise this book enough. The performance was stunning and this book is timeless. It is moving, jarring and poignant. This is not an unknown setting or an unknown premise, but the delivery of the story is remarkable and it has no equal. A must read for all.

There is no cure for being who you truly are.… In a cottage high atop Llanfair Mountain, sixteen-year-old Clara lives with her sister, Maren, and guardian Auntie. By day, they gather herbs for Auntie's healing potions. By night, Auntie spins tales of faraway lands and wicked fairies. Clara's favorite story tells of three orphan infants—Clara, who was brought to Auntie by a stork; Maren, who arrived in a seashell; and their best friend, O'Neill, who was found beneath an apple tree. One day, Clara discovers shimmering scales just beneath her sister's skin.

This book was light hearted and well attempted with a promising premise. It, however, did not fully deliver. The performance was mediocre and the plot left something still to be desired, but wasn't a complete loss. It may be right for the certain person. It was, on whole, a sweet and fairly unremarkable listen. #Audible1

This book, well read by the author, is a delight. It was enjoyable through every part, and despite having some heavy material remained easy to listen to. It was also a great insight into the lives of immigrants in England (and around the world) and to some of the wonderful and changing bits of Indian culture. Worth the listen! #Audible1

This series certainly has me hooked, and the reader is fantastic. However, this book is definitely a "middle book". Many parts had me distracted with other things while listening; and although it was still a great listen and had it's exciting moments - it felt as though it was a means to an end to get to the next part of the story, without any real story of it's own. Still, I am quite enjoying the series! #Audible1

The Wizard's Council of Tarador was supposed to tell young Koren Bladewell that he is a wizard. They were supposed to tell everyone that he is not a jinx, that all the bad things that happen around him are because he can't control the power inside him, power he doesn't know about. The people of his village, even his parents, are afraid of him, afraid he is cursed. That he is a dangerous, evil jinx.

Technically not geared towards a youth audience, but could (or should?) be. It is a great story despite the generic fantasy themes and occasional lack of creativity (a character names Chuwing from the distant land of Chindo...). I would recommend this light and enjoyable read to adults and strong readers in the youth category (Ages 11+) alike! Would also suggest this would be a fun family read/listen for your next car trip or family activity.
Looking forward to reading/listening to book 2!
