Leonardo da Vinci created the two most famous paintings in history, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. But in his own mind, he was just as much a man of science and engineering. With a passion that sometimes became obsessive, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy, fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology, and weaponry.

This book doesn’t need to be as long as it is at all. I feel that it just goes on and on when a few chapters would have done. I know nothing about art, though, so perhaps I’m just not the audience for it.

It gets really good in the later chapters even though it starts off slow.

The author comes on as quite unlikeable until later on and I thought that was interesting.

This book has good lessons and risk and it taught me to cultivate and surround myself with good people.

A natural storyteller and raconteur in his own right - just listen to Paddle Your Own Canoe and Gumption - actor, comedian, carpenter, and all-around manly man Nick Offerman ( Parks and Recreation) brings his distinctive baritone and a fine-tuned comic versatility to Twain's writing. In a knockout performance, he doesn't so much as read Twain's words as he does rejoice in them, delighting in the hijinks of Tom - whom he lovingly refers to as a "great scam artist" and "true American hero".

"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." Don’t be selfish. Don’t think too highly of yourself. Move on and read another book.
