Charlie Gordon knows that he isn't very bright. At 32, he mops floors in a bakery and earns just enough to get by. Three evenings a week, he studies at a center for mentally challenged adults. But all of this is about to change for Charlie. As part of a daring experiment, doctors are going to perform surgery on Charlie's brain. They hope the operation and special medication will increase his intelligence, just as it has for the laboratory mouse, Algernon.

This book was incredible. The concept is very interesting, and watching the main character grow filled me with joy. What helps the book is that the author is knowledgable in this field, having a degree in psychology, and that the narrator effectively brings the characters to life, and pronounces his words at a level reflective of the intelligence of the main character at the time.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone even slightly interested in the concept.

Listen to it during rain or storm. I did so and having that environment made the experience more immersive. Overall would recommend if you're into gothic horror.

The story was good, but the plot was a little predictable at times. The narrator was great, but sometimes it took a little to understand through the French accent when pronouncing French names and words, which makes sense to appear since this book was written by a French author and set in Paris.

Overall would recommend.
