Highly recommended. Superb narration and story - you will lose yourself in this extraordinary story. For some reason I think will appeal more to older or more experienced readers as the pace is definitely not modern. Imagine I will read this one again and explore more by the author.

Awesome story, awesome narration. Wonderful from beginning to end. I honestly don’t know what more to say about this book - really inventive! Blake Crouch is made for audiobooks. Buy it.

Stephen King has been part of my life for so long that it feels like a betrayal not to shower praise on every new novel but it is hard to love The Institute. When King is on his game it is absolute magic and you find yourself willing to follow him anywhere in an unquestioning way. I use to stop whatever I was reading to read the latest SK book - in reading The Institute I took 2 breaks to read other novels. The lead story of The Night Knocker was actually I thought the most compelling part of the novel.

I read this one as a follow-up to the much better re-telling of Peter Pan by Christina Henry. Her story-telling skills are strong and the pacing is good...but I found the characters very one dimensional - especially the heroine Red. It is also too influenced by the political moment and this took me out of the story too often. So not a bad book but not one that will have a long shelf life.

This one had been on my “have to read” list for so many years that I am mostly just happy to have the t-shirt. It is not an easy book and not one I am likely to recommend. If the 3 story arcs, the first was the best and cleanest tale - Brother Francis is an engaging character and their is both humour and empathy. The following parts were confusing and never really achieved the promise of that first story arc. And did I mention the long sections in Latin? Not sure if they are translated in the written book, but in the audio book obviously the are not. Every time there was a passage in Latin I found myself wondering if that was a prerequisite for the narrator getting the job. So all in all read it to fill the hole in your bucket list of post-apocalyptic novels.

This is the sort of novel we all hope as readers to find under every cover and never forget when we do. It truly is a wonderful story with characters that come alive and remind you what it is to be alive. Grateful to have found it. Only sad thing is I don’t expect to read a better novel this year.

Start by saying that as a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction I mostly enjoyed this novel. Good character development and pacing. However the technical detail weighs it down considerably at the beginning and it takes too long to get going. Also, low score for inventiveness and I found it too weighed down by the political debates of the present moment. So a good novel but not great or overly memorable.

I recommend this book to everyone who remembers how truly magical the best stories can be. I was completely transported, did not want it to end and also believed every word. Thank you Craig Davidson and Corey Brill.

This is a wonderful book - superbly researched and well told. For fans who want to revisit the great series of 1993 and think of what might have been...sigh.
