Found the premise of science x religion interesting but the story itself was a bit dry. The way the story was read by the narrator sounded insincere. I loved the way she used accents to emphasize some characters though. Bravo on that. Otherwise, I couldn’t wait to it to be over.

Histoire
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

Funny

I loved that the author narrated the stories. Gave the stories such a unique flavor and humor that, in my opinion, can only be conveyed by the person who wrote it. David’s memoirs are heartfelt and funny. Highly recommend

Histoire
For Susan Green, messy emotions don’t fit into the equation of her perfectly ordered life. She has a flat that is ideal for one, a job that suits her passion for logic, and an “interpersonal arrangement” that provides cultural and other more intimate benefits. But suddenly confronted with the loss of her mother and the news that she is about to become a mother herself, Susan’s greatest fear is realized. She is losing control.

Well written and performed

Well written and performed but I found the protagonist so annoying. I suppose that’s what the book is about, how a difficult personality like Susan operates in the world. But I personally couldn’t wait for the book to end.

Histoire
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office.
