Ruddy McCann, former college football star, has experienced a seismic drop in popularity; he is now Kalkaska, Michigan’s full-time repo man and part-time bar bouncer. His best friend is his low-energy Basset hound Jake, with whom he shares a simple life of stealing cars. Simple, that is, until Ruddy starts hearing a voice in his head. The voice introduces himself as Alan Lottner, a dead realtor. Ruddy isn’t sure if Alan is real, or if he’s losing his mind.

From start to finish I loved this book ! Don't remember where I got the suggestion, but it was a good one. I was worried that it might be violent and vulgar but it is not. Not even cussin'. It's a murder / mystery done a little different. Looking forward to book 2.

For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

I have to agree with other reviewers here, that there is way too much story on guns here. That being said though even a not-gun nut like me listened to this story with interest. I liked that people and I could relate to Amanda. R.C. Bray did a great job even with the lady voices and paced the story well. great listen

I was so relieved when I got to the end. There was so nothing here. World development was good, but oh I never really knew any of the people. The narrator even seemed bored with it. Glad it was short.

I really enjoyed Sukie Stakehouse. She's serious and human, with all our human foibles. The story moves along . The characters are nicely developed and we like them. We don't find out , why our hero vamp was buddies with the other 3 miserable vamps that jarred, but hey we"re talking vamps and supernaturals. Loved the romp

A woman writer visits a Europe in flux, where questions of personal and political identity are rising to the surface and the trauma of change is opening up new possibilities of loss and renewal. Within the rituals of literary culture, Faye finds the human story in disarray amid differing attitudes toward the public performance of the creative persona. She begins to identify among the people she meets a tension between truth and representation, a fissure that accrues great dramatic force as Kudos reaches a profound and beautiful climax.

The world building in this story is really the best part. Mr. Bacigalupi took me there. What a world. Felt somewhat like the apocalypse and the dinosaurs . What with the heat and the mastodons. The people , however , not so well developed. Emico, sure after being a slave , she would want to find freedom . The rest of the cast are just fall prey to the usual motive of greed, and ambition, the captain of the white shirts is such a shining star. It moves alongs so it kept my interest, wondering really where is he going with this. The narration was very good. A lot of american accents for Thai people though, but it set in the future.

I like long books. They hold the promise of many hours spent in someone else's skin. However, when the long descriptions and many characters don"t advance the story or really contribute to the plot in a meaningful way it is just extra fluff. I lose interest. So it is with this story. I am ready to suspend my belief in reality to some extent for the purpose of entertainment, but there is a limit. A.G. Riddle exceeded that limit. Edouardo Bellerini did a good job reading it. That is what got me through.

What a great story. This is the second of Kristin Hannah's book my husband and I listened to. I found it was frustrating to watch the mom stay in her situation...it is what happens, so we hear. This book is all about desperation in a desperate place. But the author left room for hope and spring. Julia Whelan did an amazing job bringing this story to life. Yes !
