In this compulsively listenable tale of secrets, lies, and deception, Gilly Macmillan explores the darkest impulses and desires of the human heart. Diabolically clever, The Nanny reminds us that sometimes the truth hurts so much you’d rather hear the lie.

excellent narration, okay story
Évalué le: 2019-10-24
This novel had a great premise and I was excited to see how it'd develop. I love the dynamics of nannys and spooky estate homes. This novel had both. The narrators were great with their portrayals of the different characters. However, I didn't find the mystery story line to be that mysterious, nor did I find the detective chapters to be very valuable. Still an enjoyable read - just not as stimulating as it could have been.

Great novel! I got through most of it during a train ride, and it made the time go by so quickly. It's a definite page turner, so it helped that the chapters were short (one more then I'll stop!). The action begins immediately and the rest of the novel is full of non-stop thrills. Fans of 'No Exit' by Taylor Adams will definitely enjoy this novel. The narrator was really good at giving the characters their own voices and accents. Very smooth reading with lots of emphasis and inflections.

Histoire
On a night flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that's going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he's sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché.

entertaining read with classic mystery vibes
Évalué le: 2019-07-06
Peter Swanson has a great writing style that truly keeps you wanting more. The premise was very interesting, but the plot takes you in directions you may not expect. I gasped out loud more than once as two twists in particular really shocked me! The only reason I couldn't give this 5 stars was because I did have some trouble remembering details due to the multiple narrators. Mostly my own fault, as I'm reading another similar book, but it was confusing at times trying to connect those points of view together. Otherwise, a very well written, entertaining story with classic mystery vibes.

Histoire
Hen and her husband, Lloyd, have settled into a quiet life in a new house outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Hen (short for Henrietta) is an illustrator and works out of a studio nearby and has found the right meds to control her bipolar disorder. Finally, she’s found some stability and peace. But when they meet the neighbors next door, that calm begins to erode as she spots a familiar object displayed on the husband’s office shelf. The sports trophy looks exactly like one that went missing from the home of a young man who was killed two years ago.

Very intriguing story!
Évalué le: 2019-06-12
I'm a big fan of Lisa Jewell and her style of in-depth character development and rich background stories, so I knew I would enjoy this book before starting. I Found You is an addicting story that includes all the elements of a great suspense novel. I particularly enjoyed the fast-paced chapters told from different points of view. I loved when they started to blend into each other to answer questions and fill holes that each of the characters had originally started on their own. I wasn't shocked by any of the 'plot twists', as I was more concerned with finding out HOW they happened and WHY. This wasn't a book about twists; it was about unfolding a story that happened 20 years ago, bit by bit. If you're into that kind of book, then I definitely recommend. As always, loved the narration by Helen Duff. Her voice is very warm and enthusiastic. The different accents always throw me off but she does them well!

Who knew 17 hours could go by so quickly? Great narration and great story. The only downside was that because I went through it so quickly, I found a lot of repetition of the same story with slightly different details. I'm looking forward to reading more of Slaughter's books and appreciate that Kathleen Early narrates several of them.
