Histoire
When single mother Darcy’s son falls from a rope bridge at a local playground, life stands still. She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life. George, with his twinkling hazel eyes, easy charm and lack of wedding band is almost too good to be true, but coffee becomes lunch, lunch becomes dinner, and soon they can’t go an evening without seeing each other.

This book is suspenseful and has you hooked throughout the story to the very end. I did have my suspicion about who did what and I was correct but it was still a good twist and had other reveals to ensure you atleast get a few surprises. The ending...was...a tad bit incomplete for me but good book overall.

She's old enough to be his mother. Alice has always looked young for her age, even with her graying hair and her dowdy New Jersey housewife style. Make that ex-housewife: Now that her husband's gone and her daughter is grown, Alice is in desperate need of a whole new life. So she lets her best friend Maggie, a hip New York City artist, transform her on New Year's Eve. Soon, thanks to the wonders of hair dye and tight jeans, Alice looks really young, as one night in a Manhattan bar confirms.

This story is some light readable material that remains surface level. It isn't deep or dramatic...no profound lessons learned. It was an easy listen for content but I really didn't enjoy the narration. It reminded me of another book with similar style narration.(Where the Crawdads Sing". The cadence ,pitch control, and characterization was okay but the ending of sentences and breathy way the narrator read,at times didn't sound like sentences ended. It was distracting. The characterization comes off confusing.
This book was meh.

The plot was a bit of a reach but for the story arc I understand the spin they had to take. I figured out who did it 3/4 way through the book buy definitely worth the purchase.

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Overly hyped.
Évalué le: 2022-05-03
This story wasn't as profound as projected by best seller lists and the hype surrounding it. I'm not sure if the hype was influenced by the authors controversy in real life or by the details of the book. It was average. The narrating voice of Kya was annoying. The verbal cadence and accent seemed weird. Overall, meh.

I figured out the killer half way through. If I figure it out then a star is lost in the rating. They tried to direct attention to certain suspects but did not keep the cloud of mystery for long. Plot holes existed and some mentions did not amount to any story being developed ( the superior to Whitney with the work requests). It all fell in too easily.

Introducing Audible's Thriller of the Year: Silent Child by Sarah A. Denzil, performed by Joanne Froggatt. In the summer of 2006, Emma Price watched helplessly as her six-year-old son's red coat was fished out of the River Ouse. It was the tragic story of the year - a little boy, Aiden, wandered away from school during a terrible flood, fell into the river, and drowned. His body was never recovered. Ten years later Emma has finally rediscovered the joy in life...until Aiden returns.

I fell for the hype around this book.
Évalué le: 2022-02-25
While it was in theory a solid premise for an interesting unraveling of the suspense around the disappearance and reappearance of this child, it lacked any real surprises that floored me. It was merely okay despite a few interesting turns in character development. The end was anticlimatic, and I guessed the kidnapper the minute they were introduced. I can not wrap my head around Emma's decision in the end when confronting the accomplice. I disagreed with that move. Too often, along the story,it meandered with excess descriptions of feelings or mundane details. This one had its good moments, but overall I would say meh.

It seems like the perfect job. Great wages, accommodation provided and all located within the walls of Highwood Hall, a stunning stately home owned by the Howard family. Not many little girls dream of becoming a maid, but this is an opportunity for me to get back on my feet. And for me to revisit my past....

I know I should be blown away but....
Évalué le: 2022-02-12
I have heard about this book in pop culture and referenced endlessly, so I wanted to be blown away, but on several occasions, I wanted to get my credit back. The narrating was annoying.Yes Angelou narrates but she too often paused mid sentence which took away from the flow. Her energy draining tone dragged the book along even after increasing the speed. The story itself is just okay.I wasn't blown away. The scene at 8yrs old was a confusing take on that type of trauma but I am assuming her 'liking' it was referencing her innocence and inexperience of such things. Everything that happened was just 'meh'. The ending was abrupt in the midst of a major life event..a part 2 must be somewhere. I admire her as a person, a phenomenon but I cant listen again.

I enjoyed this book despite a few times when I felt it dragged a bit. I was curious about how they could justify the plot, but it did have a sufficient explanation .The ending was unexpected, which is always a good element in a book.Worth a listen.
