Histoire
Imagine nine women meeting. Tea and cake are on the coffee table. They’ve come together to share their love of books. They are friends. They trust each other. It’s a happy gathering. What could be more harmless? Scratch the surface and look closer. One is lonely, one is desperate and one of them is a killer. When the body of a woman is discovered on a Cambridge common, DCI Barrett and DI Palmer are called to investigate. But the motive behind the crime isn’t clear...and it all leads back to a book club.

So descriptive it hurts. All I remember from the first half is someone dead and the cops don't get pizza.

Histoire
Ove is almost certainly the grumpiest man you will ever meet. He isn't as young as he used to be. He drives a Saab. He points at people he doesn't like the look of. He is described by those around his as 'the neighbour from hell'.Every morning he makes his inspection rounds of the local streets. He moves bicycles and checks the contents of recycling bins, even though it's been years since he was fired as Chairman of the Residents' Association in a vicious 'coup d'état'.

I found the story engaging and liked how it was written in small segments. It was the best book that my book club has suggested since I joined in 2019.

Histoire
It is the early spring of 2016 and Queen Elizabeth is at Windsor Castle in advance of her 90th birthday celebrations. But the preparations are interrupted when a guest is found dead in one of the Castle bedrooms. The scene suggests the young Russian pianist strangled himself, but a badly tied knot leads MI5 to suspect foul play was involved. The Queen leaves the investigation to the professionals—until their suspicions point them in the wrong direction. Unhappy at the mishandling of the case and concerned for her staff's morale, the monarch decides to take matters into her own hands.

The book ended and I realized I have no idea "who done it?" Wasn't engaging enough to backtrack to what I remembered last.

Was supposed to "read" this one for a book club, but couldn't get into the storyline. The narators were ok though a little monotone which made me zone out.

Histoire
Barcelona, 1945: Just after the war, a great world city lies in shadow, nursing its wounds, and a boy named Daniel awakes on his 11th birthday to find that he can no longer remember his mother's face. To console his only child, Daniel's widowed father, an antiquarian book dealer, initiates him into the secret of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a library tended by Barcelona's guild of rare-book dealers as a repository for books forgotten by the world, waiting for someone who will care about them again.

I like the music highlighting the story in parts
Évalué le: 2020-02-27
I struggled to complete this story as the story jumps back in time and perspectives frequently. If you enjoy piecing a puzzle together by being handed pieces a few at a time with a glimpse now and then of the box top, you might enjoy this. I thought plot lines very predictable with few surprises. I am glad I finished the book for the ending nicely added closure to the story.

This book was really hard to invest in. We could not relate to the characters and I found myself rolling my eyes throughout this book at the stupidity of the characters.

Histoire
We skipped right over the whole fiancée thing and went straight from girlfriend to wife. At least, I think that's what happened. I woke up after my brother's Vegas wedding reception with my luscious girlfriend in bed with me. We're both wearing wedding rings. So is her coworker, Josh. And our Vegas chauffeur, Geordi. Who the hell am I married to? Unraveling this mystery will be as difficult as figuring out why Amanda and I are having panic attacks over the thought of being husband and wife.

Not as enjaging as Decklan and Shannon's stories, but still enjoyable. Books from the female perspective as better in this series. Did not enjoy minor characters in this one.
