Publisher's Summary

When 19-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin - one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world. As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it... or doom Tamlin - and his world - forever.

Editorial Review

Though the story takes place in a magical world where humans coexist with faeries, A Court of Thorns and Roses is not your typical fairy tale.

Desperate to feed her family, a young woman named Feyre kills a wolf in the woods without knowing that it was a faerie. She is taken against her will to pay for her crime and is held prisoner by the High-Fae Tamlin in his estate. In this land where much is shrouded in darkness, Feyre soon discovers that they are all in grave danger. But what happens when desire takes over hate and the hostage falls in love with her captor?

The first installment of this audiobook series is narrated by actress Jennifer Ikeda. Untainted by background music and sound effects, the narrator’s stable tone and first-person point of view make it easy for listeners to focus on this audiobook’s plot and truly connect with the protagonist. Jennifer Ikeda is, herself, an author and has narrated many other audiobooks.

Fans of romance and fantasy will not be able to turn off A Court of Thorns and Roses. In fact, bestselling author Sarah J. Maas is no stranger to this genre and has received numerous awards for her young adult fantasy novels.

Awful narrator, had to stop listening

Please record with Elizabeth Evans. This narrator is intolerably monotonous that I had to stop listening

Exceedingly Silly but Fairly Clever

This is a pretty typical 'Beauty and the Beast' story. Human female protagonist, handsome monster. It reminded me of the 'Twilight' books.

Got this book on sale and it wasn't great but whatever, took a chance. This book is...meh. 7 stars out of 10.

[NOTE: The inclusion of a cringey Rape-y Fae orgy ritual storyline is a baffling plotting decision - it actually doesn't add anything to the narrative. If you are listening with teenagers, consider skipping Chapters 20, 21, and 22]

Love this story. Readers voice isn’t my favourite but still worth the listen. Sarah J Maas is excellent

Many eye rolls

This book had me rolling my eyes frequently, due to the somewhat wishy washy storyline, but I did end up finishing it.
Also perhaps a great drinking game - drink every time she says tunic and baldric😆

Not horrible not spectacular

Seems a bit as though written by a 19 year old girl in some of the cadence. I suppose that’s the approximate age of the main character but I just found it obnoxious

Voices

Multiple voices should be used for this, would give it more depth for those listening

Didn't get much sleep!

I couldn't put this audiobook down, or should I say turned it off! I even passed out a few times, not wanting to go to bed! I was hesitant about the narrator's voice but grew to truly enjoy it. The story was slightly predicatable at times, but I really enjoyed it.

good solid first book or standalone

it's good a solid first book and capable of being a stand alone story. well this is clearly one of many the book is well done it's in first person the story consistent concise it gives you a little moments in what I now consider to be classic Mass fashion there's little Snippets of information that you wouldn't think matters that round into the conclusion beautifully for this particular book I feel like Farrah's not as smart as the reader very likely is I found myself periodically figuring stuff out before which is always fun. but a little odd wonderful story though I would highly recommend an excellent author and the narration is quite well done captivating story I enjoyed listening to the whole thing.
