Publisher's Summary

From the authors of the best-selling series CHERRINGHAM

Sussex, England, 1929. Mydworth is a sleepy English market town just 50 miles from London. But things are about to liven up there, when young and handsome Sir Harry Mortimer returns home from his diplomatic posting in Cairo, with his beautiful and unconventional American wife, Kat.

No sooner have the two arrived, when a jewel robbery occurs at Harry's aunt's home - Mydworth Manor. The police are baffled and overwhelmed with the case. But Harry and Kat have an edge in the hunt for the dangerous culprit: not only do they have certain useful "skills" they've both picked up in service of King, President and Country, they also have access to parts of English society that your average bobby can't reach ...

Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series "Piece of Cake". He is also the lead in the BBC series "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries", based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books.

A Shot In The Dark - Mydworth Mysteries

A very enjoyable light mystery. Not too long not too short, great for a drive in the car.

Took some getting used to, but enjoyed it

I will admit I had a hard time with Kat's character in the beginning. Her attitude and manner of speaking seemed too modern for the period in which the story is set. After having left it alone for a few months. I returned to it and found I could tolerate it a bit more and eventually I came to love her. I quite enjoyed the story. It snaps along at a quick pace. Never leaves you bored. And the narration is excellent. Perfect for those who are fans of the Cherringham series.

Delightful Cozy Mystery

This is a delightful, historical cozy mystery set in post WWI England. I really enjoyed the characters and how they interacted with each other. As the wife was American and the husband upper class British. This allowed for humorous relief as the language and cultural expectations sometimes clashed. The supporting characters were unique and some quirky. The narrative was well done allowing the reader to visualize the era and setting in which the story takes place. The story is told from both the husband and wife’s point of view, allowing insight into their deductive reasoning, their motivations and their actions. The mystery had numerous suspects, subtle clues, surprises, danger and suspense. The storyline flowed along smoothly and quickly. I enjoyed the fact that both husband and wife were Intelligent, interesting and strong characters that worked really well together. This was a well written and performed story, so if you like cozy, historical mysteries you should enjoy this one.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries like the Cherringham series by the same authors or the Bunburry series with the the same narrator, you will love this series. I love these cozy mysteries series, they are always so enjoyable and draw me into the English countryside.

Nice listen

Nathaniel Parker has a lovely voice to listen to, and he was able to do different characters well. Story is lighthearted fare, the Cozy mystery. Easy to listen to and enjoyable.

Fun romp

A fun shortish story, but the narrator's American accent was appalling and distracted from the performance.

Lots of fun!

If this first book in the series is any indication, I will be listening to all of them. It definitely is a cozy mystery - fun, short and solved by a pair of simpatico main characters. Well done.
