Audible is bringing William Gibson’s uncovered Alien III script to life in audio for the first time, to mark the 40th Anniversary of the birth of the Alien franchise.
Alongside a full cast, Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen reprise their iconic roles as Corporal Hicks and Bishop from the 1986 film Aliens.
Father of cyberpunk William Gibson’s original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online.
This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multi-award-winning Dirk Maggs - is the chance to experience William Gibson’s untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and aliens, as a completely immersive audio experience.
The story begins with the Sulaco on its return journey from LV-426. On board the military ship are the cryogenically frozen skeleton crew of that film’s survivors: Ripley, Hicks, Newt and Bishop.
We travel aboard and hear an alarm blare. Our heroes are no longer alone....

Phenomenal Production

A Gibson-esque Aliens Sequel, great voice work...
A very different thread that would have seen the return of the original crew. Nostalgic and engrossing, taking the Alien verse in a very different direction. Readers of William Gibson will recognize his atmosphere, technology and narrative right away. The return of Hicks and Bishop was great, though we miss out on some other important characters. Overall good, with great voice and production talent. If we can't have Blomkamp's Sequel on film, perhaps we can get a similar audible version with original cast?

Why was this never filmed?!
A taut, engaging story. The cast did a great job building the suspense and dread. Well done, and really added to the Alien universe.

Short and as expected
As a die-hard Aliens fan, I had to listen and would recommend. To anyone not a fan, or looking for high-brow sci-fi I’d give a more qualified: It’s definitely an Alien story, with action and not too much depth, good for a quick listen; the formula works really well in action movies and reasonably well in this Audio dramatization. I think actually flushed out as a book, with more character depth and description, I could sink into this even more.
What I enjoyed the most was that some elements from this 1987 script clearly made appearances in Prometheus (origins of the Alien are hinted at).

What could have been? Very good!
As a fan of both Alien and William Gibson, I found this rendition of Alien III to be a better representation of what should have come out of the series following James Cameron's film. The actors did very well, and the feel was quite theatrical.

This should be a movie
This would have been a much better installment in the movie series than basically everything after Aliens.
The ending could have been better but over all I really liked the story and performances.
