Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Story
On a cold spring night in 1952, a huge meteorite fell to earth and obliterated much of the East Coast of the US, including Washington, DC. The ensuing climate cataclysm will soon render the Earth inhospitable for humanity, as the last such meteorite did for the dinosaurs. This looming threat calls for a radically accelerated effort to colonize space and requires a much-larger share of humanity to take part in the process. Elma York’s drive to become the first lady astronaut is so strong that even the most dearly held conventions of society may not stand a chance against her.

Story
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

Publisher's Summary
The follow-up to the hugely popular science fiction action-adventure All Systems Red
Artificial Condition continues The Murderbot Diaries, a science fiction series that tackles questions of the ethics of sentient robotics. It appeals to fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans. "As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure."
It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot." But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more.
Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.
What it discovers will forever change the way it thinks.

Too short again. I’m not buying another in the series.
It feels like the first two books should have been combined into one story. This author/publisher is making money off breaking up chapters of a single book into multiple books. I love the story, but the cost is too much for ~3-4 hours of listening. Good story Martha. You’ve lost a listener.

Such a great follow up to the first Murderbot
Throughout, I just kept thinking, “I love Murderbot. And [Redacted]. And [Redacted].” I only wish there had been more and I can’t wait for the next part in the series!!!

Another fun entry in the Murderbot series. At only a few hours it's basically a short story that continues from the last. I'm very much looking forward to the next entry.

Murderbot strikes again!
Much as I enjoyed ALL SYSTEMS RED, seeing Murderbot begin a new adventure with its new freedom was even more entertaining. Not only did it come across new “friends” and face new challenges, the action and pacing were even tighter.
Murderbot returns to its past on a new mission and is confronted with new challenges about what it is supposed to be.
Murderbot’s charm and wit is on full display as it works to uncover its own secrets and forge a new path forward. ART is the perfect companion and I hope to see more of this strange little duo going forward.
The book is full of fantastic moments, making it fun from start to finish. I look forward to the next one!

Terrific Story
This is an excellent novelette, and a terrific series, the kind of sci-fi story I most enjoy, without the usual padding of the longer tales. The reader does a very good job and is easy to' listen to.

Murderbot lives up to its name
A great continuation to the first novella. There is some humour in the circumstances they find themselves (and the humans they are trying to assist), and the plot is tight and well written. Enjoyable sequel.
