Publisher's Summary

It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing... and many were desperate to take that freedom back.

Among them was a great dreamer, an immigrant who'd pulled himself from the depths of poverty to become one of the wealthiest and most admired men in the world. That man was Andrew Ryan, and he believed that great men and women deserved better. So he set out to create the impossible: a utopia free from government, from censorship, and from moral restrictions on science, where what you gave was what you got. He created Rapture - the shining city below the sea. But this utopia suffered a great tragedy. This is the story of how it all came to be... and how it all ended.

A perfect blend of games 1 & 2

An in depth look into the fragmented tangled web that is Bioshock.

This story ties together the vastly diverse stories of game one and two (Mostly one) and gives you the full taste of the games without the need to play them.

Bioshock

Loved the Bioshock series, didn't know that there was a backstory novel until recently. I have already listened to this audio book 7 full times. It is amazing, thorough, and in-depth. Love it!

If you’re a hardcore fan this is for you

I was extremely hesitant when starting this as BIOSHOCK is one of my all time favourite games/stories. Quickly I began to realized they did this right. If you love Rapture and the audio diaries you picked up throughout the game then this book is for you.
Top notch. Thank you for this story.

Excellent book for fans of Bioshock

Although this book is a good read even if you are not a fan of the Bioshock video game, it is definitely a must read if you are a fan. The book creates a rich tapestry of the back story behind the city of Rapture and how a utopian society can and will fail without boundaries. Highly entertaining and performed very well.

Story is amazing, narrator not so much

I read this book fully before listening to the audio book and as a fan of the bioshock video games i loved how much the book expanded on the lore. However, the narrator of this audio book does not do this book justice and hearing him trying to mimic the accents of different characters made me cringe the entire time. I would honestly just find the book and read it. Or look up the bioshock wiki and just listen to the audio diaries. Buying the audio book is a waste or money.
