Description

Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's provocative, naturalistic masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist, who eventually gets tossed away as her deepening character emerges.

Breakfast at Tiffany's, Truman Capote's most beloved work of fiction, introduced an independent and complex character who challenged audiences, revived Audrey Hepburn's flagging career in the 1961 film version, and whose name and style has remained in the national idiom since publication. Hall uses his diligent attention to character to bring our unnamed narrator’s emotional vulnerability to the forefront of this American classic.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"[Michael C. Hall] uses his diligent attention to character to bring our unnamed narrator's emotional vulnerability to the forefront of this American classic.... I felt content and comfortable in Hall's hands as the tale unfolded. He did a wonderful job giving each character voice, especially that of Holly." (Caffeinated Book Reviewer)

Perfect for a drive

Absolutely love listening to this classic while on a road trip! Something about the story, characters, and narration is perfectly suited to a long solo drive. Excellent story, easy listen, and worth the buy.

Not for me

I realise this novella received rave reviews, but I didn't like it. I found that neither of the characters held my interest. The conversations were shallow and the story was boring. I thought the narrator did a better job at telling the story than the author. This is one of the rare books that the movie is so much better! I was excited to listen to this and happy it was provided to me for free, so I don't have to ask for a refund. This book will be one I won't listen to again and I cannot recommend it.

Bravo!!!

Michael C. Hall delivers a superb performance. His voice was identical to that of George Peppard, the actor who played opposite Audrey Hepburn in the movie version. Well done!

Narration is excellent!

The only reason I struggled to get through the story...fully, is because Michael's voice is so soothing to my ears that I found myself drifting off in thought and falling into a relaxing sleep. I know and love Capote's story of Holly but now I can appreciate it on a whole new level thanks to this superbly narrated version. I will listen to this book many many more times.

Good yet somehow not much happens

You read this book for the characters. The storyline is an excuse to have characters interact and that's just perfect. The characters are endearing, irritating, disgusting and flat out interesting.

The performance is pretty damn good too, the voices make you feel like you're in the room with them.

Admiration for Holly

You admire Holly’s tenacity to follow her own tune despite society’s failings and cake cut men. Look where she came from and where she ended up.

Delightful

I usually like to read my books. This was the first audiobook I listened to and was pleasantly surprised. The narrator did an excellent job! He has a very soothing yet engaging voice that I could listen to for hours. I also liked the different voices he did for the novel's characters (Mag especially was awesomely rendered).

Do something better with 2 hours

Dreadfully boring…racist and homophobic. Do yourself a favour and skip this one you can do better

Heartbreakingly beautiful

Truman Capote wrote a beautiful and unusual treasure. Bravissimo! This story is as telling about the narrator as it is of miss Holly Go Lightly!
