Publisher's Summary

Having been bolstered with the supplies sufficient to carry them through the winter, the survivors of the Jackson commune must now hunker down and endure the bitter Wyoming snows, while to the south, factions are beginning to form, coalescing from the ashes of the dead world.

Out in Arizona, the leftovers of the US Military encamped in the last known surviving tent city: the Elysium Fields.

In Nevada, a clan of scavengers grows ever larger, each day bringing them a step closer to collapsing under their own weight.

Resources are becoming scarcer by the day as the world trudges on, and as it so happens, the folks up in Wyoming appear to be sitting on prime real estate....

Middle of The Road

A slow start, but picks up momentum in the last third of the story. No question the author is masterful with his use of narrative with a dark pathos and was trying to create greater depth to the characters.

I did find myself missing the first person perspective of the first two books, but understand that as the world grew, the need for a broader narrative was needed.

I wonder if the author is a fan of the "Deadwood" series. Clay and Pap feel like the spectres of Al Swearigan an Dan Dority...which is fantastic!

From good to great!

I love this series so far. The characters are all incredibly believable, and R.C. Bray might just be my favourite narrator. Super pleased with the ending!

Darker than Book two

Not as much fun as book two. Seemed to drag at times. Darker story with some strange side stories that don't seem to fit , at least not yet. Still , worth the time and looking forward to the next one. Narrator is outstanding.

Excellent listen. One of the best series I have found.

100 percent worth the credit. It’s nice to finally have this genre without carbon copy zombies.

Excellent Continuation

I enjoyed this book. It continues the story quite seemlessly from the first two books. RC does an amazing job as always.

The story, however, bounces around to many of the characters unlike the first two books. The author says this book is 'Jakes' book, but I disagree. Large portions of it give huge backstory that doesn't seem to really have a pay off. Maybe it will in the 4th.

I was hoping this book would have a heavy emphasis on the struggle on day to day. the author has decided to summarize the fine detail, and push the narrative a bit faster. Very entertaining, i just really enjoyed the day to day struggle.

This book leaves many things hanging, so obviously book 4 is where they will be concluded. I will certainly finish this series.

Excellent

Another fantastic book in this series. I have listened to a several like this and Commune is one of my favorites! Good story, great characters and well written. Some of my other favorites series are After it happened and Mountain Man. All 3 series narrated by the master .... R.C. Bray!

Should have quit after book two...

The author strays in this one from what he does best, which is - GI Joe lights the bad guys, Hoo-ah, and spends most of the book examining mundane facets of his twisted American survivalist ideology, in mind numbing detail. It’s a crappy ideology anyway, and not worth hours of boredom hearing about. At least not for anyone who has an actual life.
Large parts of the book are a blatant ripoff of Deadwood - gives the book a very amateurish feel.
