Story
Most men today are sent off into society with a broken belief system, which they use to make choices that get them terrible results with life and women. Men have been conditioned to be the quintessential “nice guy.” They’re trained to be overly humble, kind to a fault, and that just “being themselves” is enough to attract the women of their dreams. Men are told to believe that conventional masculinity is toxic, and to put women ahead of their own interests, passions, and purpose.

Publisher's Summary
We seem to wake up to a new tragedy in the news every day - Newtown, Boston, Aurora, Columbine. So often the reporters say that "there were some signs, but nobody acted". The scary part about these tragedies is that less than one percent of criminals are incarcerated for their crimes, meaning that for every headline, there are millions of dangerous situations in which average people find themselves. On top of that, how can ordinary people identify threats from those who may not hurt them physically, but can devastate their lives on a daily basis - the crazy coworkers, out-of control family members, or relentless neighbors? In Dangerous Personalities, former FBI profiler Joe Navarro shows listeners how to identify the four most common "dangerous personalities", and analyze how much of a threat each one can be: the Narcissist, the Predator, the Paranoid, and the Unstable Personality. Along the way, listeners learn how to protect themselves both immediately and long-term - as well as how to recover from the trauma of being close to such a destructive force.

A very interesting read
Concise, to the point and in plain language, the book is a very interesting look at the behaviors and attitudes that may indicate a malevolent individual. The check lists are easy to understand and apply to every day life.
If you feel uneasy or threatened, this book can be an excellent resource to validate your observations and provide the impetus for action.
A quick listen, I was able to finish the book in a single sitting. For the time investment, it was surprisingly thought provoking and I would strongly recommend to anyone in distress or with even a slight interest in self defense or psychology.

I really wanted to like this book. However it is long and drawn out. I couldn't get threw the giant lists of points in second chapter. I don't know what is worse the narration or the repetition in the writing. I will definitely be returning this book.

Not for audiobook
Years ago I read The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker and it is still much more useful than this book. This book was not good as an audiobook. The author has way too many lists that the narrator has to read. Many of the words on the list are really not useful without much more context.

It sounded like it would be good
I wonder if I would have enjoyed this book better if I had read it rather than listened to it.
In a few places there are lengthy lists of characteristics (over 100 entries) of similar items or long lists of words that are synonyms, and since they're in alphabetical order, when you're hearing "m" words, you know you've still got a long way to go.
The book itself is dry as far as I'm concerned: lots of theory and few examples.
The narration is well done, but I found the narrator's voice to be not monotonous but tending more toward that end of the scale and coupled with the dry material was not a good combination for me.
There was definitely some useful information in here, but I found myself just wanting to get through the book rather than enjoying it.
