From breakout stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger comes a subversively funny collection of essays and observations on a confident woman's approach to friendship, singlehood, and relationships. "Girl Logic" is Iliza's term for the way women obsess over details and situations that men don't necessarily even notice. She describes it as a characteristically female way of thinking that appears to be contradictory and circuitous but is actually a complicated and highly evolved way of looking at the world.

All Things Aside is a punchy, honest, incisive book that shares a view of the world through the eyes of the inimitable Iliza Shlesinger. From the macro to micro, Shlesinger tackles it all with her no-bullshit comedic style. Throughout the book, Shlesinger dives from one subject into the next, making her hilarious asides the basis of her stories, much like she does in her stand-up comedy. Topics range from dissecting social expectations to the notion that products marketed specifically to women are scams, and all manner of things in between.

Growing up in the friendly suburbs of Richmond, Virginia, Constance Wu was often scolded for having big feelings or strong reactions. “Good girls don’t make scenes,” people warned her. And while she spent most of her childhood suppressing her bold, emotional nature, she found an early outlet in local community theater—it was the one place where big feelings were okay—were good, even. Acting became her refuge, her touchstone, and eventually her vocation.

If there’s one trait that makes someone well-suited to comedy, it’s being able to take a punch - metaphorically and, occasionally, physically. Told with a healthy dose of self-deprecation, A Very Punchable Face reveals the brilliant mind behind some of the dumbest sketches on television, and lays bare the heart and humor of a hardworking guy - with a face you can’t help but want to punch.

Description
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From Ali Wong, star of the Netflix original series Beef, a “refreshing, hilarious, and honest account of making a career in a male-dominated field, dating, being a mom, growing up, and so much more” (Bustle) through heartfelt and wickedly funny letters to her daughters
Ali Wong is one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People of the Year • “Knife-sharp . . . a genuine pleasure.”—The New York Times
ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Time, Variety, Chicago Tribune, Glamour, New York
In her hit Netflix comedy special Baby Cobra, an eight-month pregnant Ali Wong resonated so strongly that she even became a popular Halloween costume. Wong told the world her remarkably unfiltered thoughts on marriage, sex, Asian culture, working women, and why you never see new mom comics on stage but you sure see plenty of new dads.
The sharp insights and humor are even more personal in this completely original collection. She shares the wisdom she’s learned from a life in comedy and reveals stories from her life off stage, including the brutal single life in New York (i.e. the inevitable confrontation with erectile dysfunction), reconnecting with her roots (and drinking snake blood) in Vietnam, tales of being a wild child growing up in San Francisco, and parenting war stories. Though addressed to her daughters, Ali Wong’s letters are absurdly funny, surprisingly moving, and enlightening (and gross) for all.
Ce que les critiques en disent
“[Wong] spins a volume whose pages simultaneously shock and satisfy. . . . Dear Girls is not so much a real-talk handbook as it is a myth-puncturing manifesto.”—Vogue
“[A] refreshing, hilarious, and honest account of making a career in a male-dominated field, dating, being a mom, growing up, and so much more. . . . Yes, this book is addressed to Wong’s daughters, but every reader will find nuggets of wisdom and inspiration and, most important, something to laugh at.”—Bustle
“Absurdly funny.”—Parade

Don’t trust Audicted reviews
I bought this book because it was recommended on audicted . I found it overly crass and over the top with offensive language..The theme of preparing one’s daughters for life is a good idea but it could have been done with more class.

Ali just knows exactly what to say
Absolutely hilarious. I debated whether to get the audio book or paperback. I'm so glad I chose the audiobook. Having Ali narrate this is just so much more intentional and real. Her humor just comes with so much laughter but also so many lessons. As a Canadian born Chinese. I really had some of these hit home. Thank you Ali for this and thank you Justin for getting constantly roasted!

No.
It's always nice to peel back a layer or two in these standup comic memoirs to see there's a real person underneath, or so I thought until I listened to this drivel. As someone who loved her Netflix specials, I did so with the usual assumption that the horrible things she was saying were completely untrue. After getting through only a couple chapters, it is very clear that it was ALL true. Ali Wong is horrible, insufferable person, and if you were withholding judgment that her husband may have left her immediately after she did nothing but belittle and degrade him in her latest special, then this book will finally clear that up for you, because the only good thing she can seem to say about him here is that he's good looking. This woman is entitled, narcissistic, and utterly irredeemable, and the entire message of this novel seems to be that her daughters need to follow in those footsteps because now she has money and she can kiss other dudes in movies. Did not finish, will not finish.

Beautifully funny and heartwarming honest book
I love Ali Wong’a narrative. It was so beautifully and brutally honest and hilariously narrated about being an Asian women navigating life while pursuing your dream. It is something that is not talked about from an Asian lense and I laughed and cried all at the same time. It was so relatable.
