Now, most people have heard of ADHD and know someone who may have it. But lost in the discussion of both childhood and adult diagnosis of ADHD is the potential upside: Many hugely successful entrepreneurs and highly creative people attribute their achievements to ADHD. Also unknown to most are the recent research developments, including innovations that give a clearer understanding of the ADHD brain in action.

Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is a national health crisis that continues to grow - yet it remains one of the most misunderstood and incorrectly treated illnesses today. Neuropsychiatrist Daniel G. Amen, MD was one of the first to identify that there are multiple types beyond just purely hyperactive or inattentive ADD, each requiring a different treatment. Now, in this all-new, revised edition, Dr. Amen again employs the latest medical advances in the field, including the largest brain imaging study ever completed on patients with ADD.

Every year, millions of withdrawn little girls and chronically overwhelmed women go undiagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder because they don't fit the stereotypical profile: they're not fast-talking, hyperactive, or inattentive, and they are not male. Sari Solden's groundbreaking study reveals that ADHD affects just as many women as men, and that the resulting depression, disorganization, anxiety, and underachievement are also symptoms of ADHD. Newly revised and updated to reflect the latest clinical research, the book explores treatment and counseling options and more.

Description
In 1994, Driven to Distraction sparked a revolution in our understanding of attention deficit disorder. Now a second revolution is under way in the approach to ADD, and the news is great. Drug therapies, our understanding of the role of diet and exercise, even the way we define the disorder, all are changing radically. And doctors are realizing that millions of adults suffer from this condition, though the vast majority of them remain undiagnosed and untreated. In this new book, Drs. Edward M. Hallowell and John J. Ratey build on the breakthroughs of Driven to Distraction to offer a comprehensive and entirely up-to-date guide to living a successful life with ADD.
As Hallowell and Ratey point out, "attention deficit disorder" is a highly misleading description of an intriguing kind of mind. Original, charismatic, energetic, often brilliant, people with ADD have extraordinary talents and gifts embedded in their highly charged but easily distracted minds. Tailored expressly to ADD learning styles and attention spans, Delivered from Distraction provides accessible, engaging discussions of every aspect of the condition, from diagnosis to finding the proper treatment regime. Inside you'll discover:
- whether ADD runs in families
- the links between ADD and other conditions
- how people with ADD can free up their inner talents and strengths
- the new drugs and how they work, and why they're not for everyone
- sexual problems associated with ADD and how to resolve them
- strategies for dealing with procrastination, clutter, and chronic forgetfulness
ADD is a trait, it only becomes a disorder when it impairs your life. Featuring gripping profiles of patients with ADD who have triumphed, Delivered from Distraction is a wise, loving guide to releasing the positive energy that all people with ADD hold inside. If you have ADD or care about someone who does, this is the book you must read.

This is going to change my life...
I'm a 33-year-old, male entrepreneur that until now has learned solely from my experiences and mistakes.
I'm only on chapter 10 and this book is making so much sense to me and why I struggle with things that are seen as simple for most people. Yet other things I am able to do people couldn't fathom where I even started!
It's such a relief to see someone has broken this down to a science and I am excited to explore it more and see what effect it has on my life going forward.

An amazing and gentle book for anyone with ADHD
This book gives you a realistic take on ADHD from someone who really understands. both what it is like to live with ADhD and who is a medical professional in the field.
This is an amazing book to read as a person with ADHD because it not only outlines some of the challenges associated with ADHD it also has a focus on the strengths of ADHD something that other books just don't do.
I would highly recommend this book for anyone who has ADHD, or for anyone who is close with someone with ADHD.

Best book on the subject
I've read a few books on ADHD but this is so far the best one. Our doctor comes off as non-biased, and motives are dwelling in the search for truth. He seems to come off as someone who really cares about all people and the medical profession as a whole.

Great intro for newly diagnosed
I liked the all around, all in one resource this book is for ADHD. It is particularly for adult ADHD but also is a great resource for parents learning what to expect moving forward in the life of a child with ADHD. I feel better equipped with the bigger, long term picture of what ADHD entails and how important treatment is.
I highly recommend the audio book, because I really doubt I would have read all of it in the book form.
The chapters are not accurate in the audio version though. So finding a chapter again is difficult. I do wish chapters were listed with their titles , accurately. The book has like 43 chapters, but the whole book audio is done in like 18 chapters. (The entire book is there, but just not by chapters as is the physical form).

Great book! Less than stellar chapter breaks.
This book is incredibly helpful so someone (me) just diagnosed with ADD. I totally recommend it. HOWEVER It says right at the beginning of the book that it's fine to skip around and read the chapters you're interested in first, or not read parts of the book at all (very wise, the authors know their audience)! That's not easily done with the chapter breaks in this audiobook, as they aren't labeled and don't correspond with the chapter breaks in the book. They are arbitrarily set around 44 minutes. So this is a quibble with the production, which could be easily fixed. The book itself is EXCELLENT.
