Publisher's Summary

Delve into the history of the sinister Count Dooku in this audio original set in a galaxy far, far away....

Darth Tyranus. Count of Serenno. Leader of the Separatists. A red saber, unsheathed in the dark. But who was he before he became the right hand of the Sith? As Dooku courts a new apprentice, the hidden truth of the Sith Lord’s past begins to come to light.

Dooku’s life began as one of privilege - born within the stony walls of his family’s estate, orbited by the Funeral Moon where the bones of his ancestors lie interred. But soon, his Jedi abilities are recognized, and he is taken from his home to be trained in the ways of the Force by the legendary Master Yoda.

As he hones his power, Dooku rises through the ranks, befriending fellow Jedi Sifo-Dyas and taking a Padawan of his own, the promising Qui-Gon Jinn - and tries to forget the life that he once led. But he finds himself drawn by a strange fascination with the Jedi Master Lene Kostana, and the mission she undertakes for the Order: finding and studying ancient relics of the Sith, in preparation for the eventual return of the deadliest enemies the Jedi have ever faced.

Caught between the world of the Jedi, the ancient responsibilities of his lost home, and the alluring power of the relics, Dooku struggles to stay in the light - even as the darkness begins to fall.

Phenomenally done.

Chillingly descriptive. Voice acting is amazing and fulfilling story telling. Ventress's performance riveting and passionate.

A (Potentially) Fresh New Direction

This movie as a different take on the Star Wars audiobooks than I was used to, and so - even though it was a shorter story than most - I struggled to "get into it", as it seemed to flow a little more 'choppy' than those stories with a narrative voice. I also felt as though the entire cast (with the exception of the voice artists for Yoda, Sifo and Dooku) didn't really have a good handle on the nuance of how many of the Jedi characters would normally interact; It felt as if you put a script to an installment in a franchise in front of a group of people who hadn't been subjected to said franchise, and just told them to read it was they thought they should.

That being said, this new style is something I think should be explored more. I liked the old-timey, radio drama atmosphere that was lent, what with the extra overacting and sound effects (which you wouldn't normally need if you had a narrator explaining what was happening).

Good Story! Questionable voice choice...

This story was an amazing look at Dooku's life and transformation from young Jedi hopeful to the sinister figure we know from the movies and Clone Wars. Every voice actor did a fantastic performance, but the voice for Dooku himself was nowheres near sounding anything close to Christopher Lee. literally every character had a perfect voice that matched or was close enough to the characters but for some reason they chose a voice for Dooku that was so unlike the Dark Lord that I found it confusing, distracting and really put a damper on an otherwise great audio drama. I would not listen to it again based on that one fact.

Questions answered

Great story answers questions that the movie can't. The different narrative of the actors and sound effects bring the book to life.

good read for cannon books

would have loved more clarity on why the ventress story was happening throughout the book but it tied in nicely at the very end.

Dark side development and Dooku's fall. So good!

The story is amazing. Learning about Dooku's past. His family. His training under Yoda. All of it provides so much context to a villain we saw relatively little of in the films. Ventress gets some more development in this as well! We get to see Dooku using the dark side long before meeting Sidious. We also get to see exactly why he left the Jedi Order, and how he became the Count we know and love. My only complaint is the "Audiodrama" style of the story. I totally understand that is how it was written, it was just difficult to follow at times. The sound ques helped. And the cast was phenomenal! But without a set narrator, it was sometimes difficult to keep up. Aside from that, this is a very good story for anyone curious about the Dark Side, the Jedi, or the Count!

Great story and performances!

Although most Star Wars audio books are well narrated and well acted, having a large cast of voices and extensive sound effects was really appreciated. The story and characters were fantastic and getting to know so much about Dooku was a pleasure. Although his voice was quiet different from the movies and other publications, Euan Morton is a great voice actor and I loved his perormance (also played the Sith Inquisitor in the Old Republic)!
