Description

Everyone knows that high IQ is no guarantee of success, happiness, or virtue, but until Emotional Intelligence, we could only guess why. Daniel Goleman's brilliant report from the frontiers of psychology and neuroscience offers startling new insight into our “two minds” - the rational and the emotional - and how they together shape our destiny.

Through vivid examples, Goleman delineates the five crucial skills of emotional intelligence and shows how they determine our success in relationships, work, and even our physical well-being. What emerges is an entirely new way to talk about being smart.

The best news is that “emotional literacy” is not fixed early in life. Every parent, every teacher, every business leader, and everyone interested in a more civil society has a stake in this compelling vision of human possibility.

the problem is this audiobook version not the book

the chapters in the audiobook don't reflect the amount of chapters in the actual book. over 100 "chapters" that are essentially paragraphs. none of the "chapters" are labeled or titled either. various audio hiccups abd odd cuts. the audio book could be significantly better. the book itself was great.

Necessary

Its a good topic of extreme importance, but it’s very dry and the robotic reading doesn’t help. Definitely a must read/listen for parents, business people or humans.

Just Examples

I was expecting to have some action items on how to become more emotionally intelligent, but the book shows examples/signs/"symptoms" of people who lack emotional intelligence. It was a good introduction, though.

Like reading a text book

Boring book that I couldn’t even get through. Got half way and that was enough. Nothing really that I found useful or interesting. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Good book. Not so as audiobook.

I was looking forward to this book after hearing an interview with the author, Daniel Goleman. I was pleased enough with his narration of the Preface or Introduction. However, when the main narrator started Part One, I found hit tone and cadence very robotic sounding. It was such a distraction and annoyance that I stopped listening after the first chapter. I ended up returning the audiobook. Disappointing.

Great book terrible Editing

Too bad the editing on this amateur level. The preview only covers the introduction read by the author which is great. When the narration from Barrett Whitener starts horrible editing starts too. Mechanical, sped up, monotone narration makes it really hard to enjoy and focus on the book.

the voice of the narrator is unbearable, don't buy

the voice of the narrator changes from the initial one to a robotic and unbearable one after the initial chapter. I felt robbed or scammed when this happened.

Narrator too Robotic

Absolutely struggled to finish. Forced myself to out of sheer will. Most memorable moment was when it was over. First reason I did not enjoy it is that the narrator was extremely robotic and monotone. For a book about emotional intelligence, the narrator read with zero emotion. which made it difficult to stay with. The next reason I did not enjoy it is that it was not what I expected. I was looking for a book about emotional intelligence as it applies to leaders, CEOs, business relationships, etc...and this book was not that. I would not recommend this book to anyone else.

so repititive and not practical for daily life

so repititive and not practical for daily life, no practical lessons to apply EI concepts, only repeating of the value of EI without giving you how to apply

Technically proficient

I've started this book twice before. I finished this time. While I think there is a wealth of information about the subject of emotional intelligence, I wish there was more practical application to increase one's EI.

Disappointed

This book talked an awful lot about school age children and strangely, child molesters. I'm an adult, looking for ways to improve myself NOW. Looking back on my youth and reasons and examples of how things affected my emotional intelligence does nothing for me. I really didn't get much out of this book, except many wasted hours and the expense of this book. More drivel I could have done without.

Good Information, Dry narrator

The content of the book is good, but the narrator reading the book sounds like a robot, the intro is by the author which is better but once you get to chapter 1 there is the same dry voice for the rest of the book.

Drag, useless academic information

Most of the book is academic descriptions and unnecessary detail vs useful tips to improve emotional intelligence.
