Description

Everyone knows that high IQ is no guarantee of success, happiness, or virtue, but until Emotional Intelligence, we could only guess why. Daniel Goleman's brilliant report from the frontiers of psychology and neuroscience offers startling new insight into our “two minds” - the rational and the emotional - and how they together shape our destiny.

Through vivid examples, Goleman delineates the five crucial skills of emotional intelligence and shows how they determine our success in relationships, work, and even our physical well-being. What emerges is an entirely new way to talk about being smart.

The best news is that “emotional literacy” is not fixed early in life. Every parent, every teacher, every business leader, and everyone interested in a more civil society has a stake in this compelling vision of human possibility.

Very Mindy, not much heart.

Takes around the topic, very Mindy, not much heart. Not a self health book more a review of research about the topic.

Good book. Not so as audiobook.

I was looking forward to this book after hearing an interview with the author, Daniel Goleman. I was pleased enough with his narration of the Preface or Introduction. However, when the main narrator started Part One, I found hit tone and cadence very robotic sounding. It was such a distraction and annoyance that I stopped listening after the first chapter. I ended up returning the audiobook. Disappointing.

the voice of the narrator is unbearable, don't buy

the voice of the narrator changes from the initial one to a robotic and unbearable one after the initial chapter. I felt robbed or scammed when this happened.

Great book terrible Editing

Too bad the editing on this amateur level. The preview only covers the introduction read by the author which is great. When the narration from Barrett Whitener starts horrible editing starts too. Mechanical, sped up, monotone narration makes it really hard to enjoy and focus on the book.

Technically proficient

I've started this book twice before. I finished this time. While I think there is a wealth of information about the subject of emotional intelligence, I wish there was more practical application to increase one's EI.

Good insight

The content itself is really good food for thought, my only complaint is that the guys voice is a little hard to listen too.

Missing a section titled Empathy and Ethics:

I'm on Part 2 in the middle of 7. The Roots of Empathy and the audio skipped the section mentioned on the title of this review.

(page 143 second to last paragraph. Book: triggered so easily. Audio: triggered so early)

Great Book, a little dated, Author a little arrogant

Great book that helped launch the emotional intelligence / psychology craze into this field. Most of the information is pure gold. Some information seems stretchy and the author shows a bit of overconfidence in his knowledge and field. However, all-in-all, a must read for people interested in the field!

Simply mind opening!

Awesome book! Hooks you from the start and makes you realize how little we know about how our emotions work!

the book is enlightenment

A lot of good information is shared here. I found, for myself, that listening to this book while following along made understanding this complex topic easier. I learned a lot of the early on importance of educating children in emotion intelligence to help lower the risk of future depression, alcohol and drug abuse and to help them succeed more in life. Be prepared for some very deep topics to be discussed.
