Description

Stone Reeves was my neighbor, and I've hated him since sixth grade.

Gorgeous and charismatic, he became the town's football god, while I became the town's invisible girl.

He went to a Division 1 school for football, while my father was fired by his father.

His team won the National Championship, while my mother died the same day.

He was a first round pick for the NFL...

...while I made the worst decision of my life.

Now I'm in Texas trying to pick up the pieces of my life.

But, Stone is here.

Stone is everywhere.

It doesn't matter that disaster has struck my life again.

It doesn't matter that he's the one trying to console me.

It doesn't matter that he's the nation's newest football obsession.

Because for me, he always has been and always will be my enemy.

Mainly narrated by Savannah

Although the narration from Savannah is well done, Jason narrated way too little ( a few phrases at first and at the end) and it was disappointing. I avoid choosing books narrated by one only. Good story thought.

Distressing; too much tragedy, no reprieve 😱

This book can be triggering for people who suffer with abandonment issues and or suffer from BPD.
I personally found this book very difficult to read, I could not stop crying. I cried throughout the WHOLE book, no happy tears whatsoever. If this was a memoir or a biography of some sort, I would’ve loved it, it’s well written. But it’s a New Adult novel meant to be a HEA. For me there was no HEA.
The heroine goes through a series of tragedies and losses, she is utterly alone in her tragedy with only her childhood best friend turned mortal enemy at 12 yrs old. This best friend, brings mostly financial and sexual relief. Her college "friends" are flaky at best and start showing interest in her only because she’s, famous wide receiver, Stone Reeve’s "girl". Stone and Dusty can hardly stand each other, their pride gets in the way of their friendship and causes them to constantly leave or abandon each other.

The story could’ve been saved if at least she sought counselling or met with a bereavement therapist or a group, anything that could’ve helped her to actually work on her issues and allow the character to develop and grow. The only thing she got was hate sex to temporarily make her forget her many losses. Her relationship with Stone was strange. The transition between them hating each other and then loving each other was spotty and unconvincing.
I had a few unanswered questions: what were Dusty’s mom’s notes at the back of the cookbooks she gave to stone? Dusty only read the front ones. What happened with the stalker? Did he rape her? Why didn’t Dusty ever talk about that to somebody or even tell Stone once she told him a portion of the story?
The only good part of this book was Savannah Peachwood’s narration, she’s absolutely amazing at doing both male and female voices.
I don’t understand why there are so many good reviews on this book, the only person I would recommend this book to is an emotional masochist or somebody who gets off on Schadenfreude. I have read another book by Tijan that I really LOVED called the Anti-Stepbrother. The balance between loss, tragedy, bereavement, friendship and loyalty was perfect. I cried a lot, but I also felt comforted and relieved by the deep friendships she created.
I went through the whole Enemies book hoping for the ending to appease me but it didn’t. Very troubling and disappointing read. I don’t recommend.

This book made me laugh and almost cry. Loved it and the emotion if gave.
