Publisher's Summary

New York Times best seller Karin Slaughter brings back her two most fascinating and complex characters - medical examiner Sara Linton and her ex-husband, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver - in a heart-pounding tale of faith, doubt, and murder....

The victim was buried alive in the Georgia woods - then killed in a horrifying fashion. When Sara Linton and Jeffrey Tolliver stumble upon the body, both become consumed with finding out who killed the pretty young woman. For them, a harrowing journey begins, one that will test their own turbulent relationship and draw dozens of life into the case.

For as Jeffrey and Sara move further down a trail of shocking surprises and hidden passions, neither is prepared for the most stunning discovery of all: the identity of a killer who is more evil and dangerous than anyone could have guessed.

Wish narrator was same as previous series books.

Disappointing to have a different narrator, it changed the dynamics and personalities of the characters.

new narrator

love Kathleen Early as a narrator.
i started with the Will Trent series... which Kathleen read most of those as well.
it is an adjustment when you're listening to these books back to back.
Clarinda isn't terrible. in fact i did not mind her voice at all.
kind of envision the characters differently now?!!

It was a good audio book overall

It was a great book overall it took me a little bit to get use to Clarinda as narrator as I am use to Kathleen and her great transitioning between different characters and the accent she uses but Clarinda was pretty good too.

Good but not great

While the story itself was interesting enough, I felt that the reader left a bit to be desired.

Narrator changes the entire feel

Binging the Grant County/Will Trent … Changing narrator on the fifth book after growing accustomed to the characters perceived by Kathleen Early was a disappointment. Imagine recasting an entire show, but having all the same characters … It just doesn’t work

The book itself is great, but I just never got used to the new tone.

On to the next, with apparently another new narrator. 😔

Narrator left a lot to be desired

Changing the narrator 4 books into a series made it hard to believe the characters were the same. The narrator was not a good narrator to begin with and I struggled with the entire book because I wasn’t hearing Sarah Liston, Jeffrey or Lena. If it wasn’t for it being a book in the series, I would have stopped listening and returned the book.

The narrator….

It was such a drastic switch from the first few books in the series that it nearly took the whole book to get used to the different narrator.

Another good story, but a different narrator

While I enjoyed the story and love the Grant County series, I was disappointed by the change of narrator. Clarissa Ross has a great southern accent and is pleasant to listen to, but her sound is very different from Ms. Early and that changes the feel of the story. All that said, I can’t wait for the next book!

Sick of the anti-abortion bs

I am a fan of Katherine Slaughter's newer work, and it's a bit of a bummer coming back to her older stuff where there is all this unnecessary anti abortion rhetoric, which is especially bad here. It's always good writing (I miss the typical narrator, but the new narrator is good), but for a woman who got famous writing about and critiquing misogyny, her old books are sexist as hell.
