I liked the build up to the final battle and the little revenge scenes every now and again.

Great story, terrible pronunciation
Ty-stee for Tiste? Pronouncing the H in Jaghut? This is brutal to listen to, really takes away from the listening experience. Barnaby Edwards is absolutely awful at narrating.

Too Much Subjective Commentary
There is potentially plenty of thought-provoking adrenaline-driven action in this Malazan world entry: rapes, murders, sorcerous combat, pitched battles, and confrontations among Tiste, Jaghut, Thelomen, Soultaken/Divers, Dragons/Eleint, and Elder Gods/Azathenai. As is typical for Steven Erikson - these are cleverly plotted, paced beautifully, loaded with both heartrending pathos & sardonic humor, and delivered with mind's-eye vivid description.
Unfortunately, most of the book deals with characters making observations and discussing how the various events might affect society and history.
'Fall Of Light' comes across as a series of academic discussions among poets and philosophers (punctuated by cinematic violence and pithy repartee).
As to presentation: Barnaby Edwards was a "defensible" choice of reader from Brilliance Audio Inc. His diction, timbre, cadence, and timing are professional - and his evident maintained interest while reading some genuinely tedious stretches of text is impressive. Unfortunately, Edwards tends to overdramatics at times, and a couple of characters from his repertoire sound straight-up cartoonish. Overall, the listening experience for this recording is "adequate".
In toto, this audiobook merits a mere 5.5/10-stars. Unless you're absolutely in love with the metaphysical/ethereal elements of Erikson's reality, stick to the 'Book Of The Fallen' series (in fact, just reading it again would be a better way to spend your time - I've read it four times and I promise you.. there is stuff there that you never noticed).
[ATTN PRODUCERS: An appended PDF with a map of Kurald Galain and a dramatis personae would be incredibly useful for this sweeping epic with dozens of characters]
