Histoire
On the night of the school prom, a young teacher is found dead in the Thames in a drug-related accident. It seems - at first - to be another sign that Cherringham High is spiralling out of control. The new head however is convinced that the teacher's death is suspicious and quietly calls in Sarah Edwards. With her one-time detective partner, Jack Brennan, back in America, Sarah is at first reluctant to take on the case. But when she does get involved, it soon becomes clear that the tragic accident might really be a case of murder - and even Sarah herself could be in danger.

In 1944, British bomber pilot Hugo Langley parachuted from his stricken plane into the verdant fields of German-occupied Tuscany. Badly wounded, he found refuge in a ruined monastery and in the arms of Sofia Bartoli. But the love that kindled between them was shaken by an irreversible betrayal. Nearly 30 years later, Hugo's estranged daughter, Joanna, has returned home to the English countryside to arrange her father's funeral. Among his personal effects is an unopened letter addressed to Sofia. In it is a startling revelation.

How else to explain the torrential rain, the salt-worn mansion known as White Hall, and the restless ghost purported to haunt its halls? But before Blake can discern the novel’s ending, she’s found dead, murdered in a claw-foot tub. The proprietress of White Hall stands accused.

An intense psychological thriller for fans of I Am Watching You, The Luckiest Girl Alive, and All the Missing Girls. Two missing girls. Thirteen years apart. Olivia Shaw has been missing since last Tuesday. She was last seen outside the entrance of her elementary school in Hunts Point wearing a white spring jacket, blue jeans, and pink boots. I force myself to look at the face in the photo, into her slightly smudged features, and I can't bring myself to move. Olivia Shaw could be my mirror image, rewound to 13 years ago.

Description
Sixteen years after a family feud drove her from the cozy Northwoods village of Whispering Pines, Wisconsin, former detective Jayne O'Shea returns to prepare her grandparents' lake house for sale. Once there, not only does she find that the house has been trashed, her dog discovers a dead body in the backyard.
Jayne intends to stay out of it, but when it becomes obvious the sheriff isn't interested in investigating the death, Jayne can't stop herself. Her list of suspects grows faster than the plants in the commons' pentacle garden. Could it be the local Wiccan green witch with her stash of deadly plants? The shopkeeper who slips into trances and foretells death? The visitor determined to practice black magic?
What Jayne knows for sure is that the closer she gets to solving this crime, the more the sheriff wants her to back off. And when a local fortune teller provides a crucial clue, Jayne knows it's up to her to solve this murder.

Dry Narration
The narration was very dry and the plot line was somewhat predictable. Only a couple of parts were surprising. It could have been much improved with better narration. Often I couldn’t tell the difference between the main character’s dialogue and thinking to herself. This got quite confusing when she’s saying surprising things right to someone’s face…or not?

not bad
Surprisingly decent Wicca-themed cozy. I only picked it up because it was a daily deal on Audible. It was worth the 3.75. I'm not a cozy fan, but the story was interesting enough and the writing was fairly accomplished. I don't know if I'd read the next one, but it was alright. Just not really my genre. I'm not a huge fan of romance subplots. This one wasn't the worst (not quite an insta-romance, the author is playing the long game), but it's just not my thing.
The narration was ok. It kind of sounded like she was new to it, but she made a good effort.

Do NOT purchase this book
If you are interested in the plot of this book, I suggest reading it. I couldn't get past chapter 3 of this audio book. The narrator is unbelievably awful. One of the worst I have encountered in the 80+ audio books I have listened to so far. Absolutely horrendous performance. Avoid this disaster.

Boring!
I couldn’t wait for this book to end. The story was terribly boring. I think the narrator’s voice made it even worse. I’m sad that I wasted an Audible credit on this one.
