In The Dorito Effect, Mark Schatzker shows us how our approach to the nation's number-one public health crisis has gotten it wrong. The epidemics of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes are not tied to the overabundance of fat or carbs. Instead we have been led astray by the growing divide between flavor - the tastes we crave - and the underlying nutrition.

In our unique genomes, every one of us carries the story of our species - births, deaths, disease, war, famine, migration, and a lot of sex. But those stories have always been locked away - until now. Who are our ancestors? Where did they come from? Geneticists have suddenly become historians, and the hard evidence in our DNA has completely upended what we thought we knew about ourselves. Acclaimed science writer Adam Rutherford explains exactly how genomics is completely rewriting the human story - from 100,000 years ago to the present.

Napoleon Bonaparte lived one of the most extraordinary of all human lives. In the space of just 20 years, from October 1795, when as a young artillery captain he cleared the streets of Paris of insurrectionists, to his final defeat at the (horribly mismanaged) battle of Waterloo in June 1815, Napoleon transformed France and Europe. After seizing power in a coup d'état, he ended the corruption and incompetence into which the revolution had descended.

Description
Memory is the greatest challenge to learning a foreign language; there are just too many words and too many rules. For every new word we learn, we seem to forget two old ones, making fluency seem out of reach.
Fluent Forever tackles this challenge head-on. Starting with pronunciation, you'll learn how to rewire your ears and turn foreign sounds into familiar sounds. And with the help of sophisticated spaced-repetition techniques, you'll be able to memorize hundreds of words a month in minutes every day. This is brain hacking at its most exciting, taking what we know about neuroscience and linguistics and using it to create the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn a foreign language in the spare minutes of your day.

A lot of good resources listed. Even sped up, I found it a bit dry, and difficult to finish. Some of the websites listed didn’t seem to have the content as advertised by the author.
Wouldn’t listen to it again. Probably better as a hard copy to highlight resources and strategies that you’d find useful to you, and what language YOUR studying.

This book is a memory book disguised as a language book but that shouldn’t dissuade anyone from reading.. hands down one of the best books I’ve read on memory (I’ve read a lot) which will greatly aid in language learning.
This book has already made its way into my top ten for this year (100 or so books so far this year so far).

Very Good Information If A Bit Disorganized
I was blown away by the first hour and a half of this book. Unfortunately the rest of the information is not as great. It frequently retreads the same information and appears self contradictory at times. Plus it just doesn't go into enough depth on what exactly to do. Still a really great resource full of various resources. The author is clearly very talented. I just couldn't help but wonder if it could have been better.

This book will change the world...
I can’t begin to explain how incredible this method for language learning. My abilities to learn, retain and recall information has drastically increased. I’m currently learning German and started out with a native German speaking friend giving me tips and answering questions as well as using apps like Memrise and Doulingo but I did not become serious about learning until reading this book. My German friend is on her way to becoming a Polyglot (she speaks 3 fluently and is learning 2 more at the same time) and she almost feels robbed of her time spent in classes and doing boring translations now that she is using the Fluent-Forever method.
She’s actually a bit jealous that I’m starting out with such an effective tool that she wasn’t unaware of and now she’s learning faster than ever. Gabe did a f******** fantastic job with putting together all of these techniques as well as an excellent narration, colorfully and writing writing and staring forward and easy to understand examples.
This man deserves some kind of trophy for his efforts. I bought this audio book as well as 2 paperbacks and have gifted e-cards for friends to get the audio book themselves.
If you want to learn a new language quickly and have lot of fun while doing it, buy this book and tell everyone you know about it.

It REALLY works.... IF you do!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely! The techniques really work, and work for more than just languages.I now use the SRS system to create guides to study nearly everything...
Who was your favorite character and why?
n/a
Which character – as performed by Gabriel Wyner – was your favorite?
n/a
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It helped me find a key to unlock a language I could not speak, NOW I am truly speaking coherently, writing clearly, and learning every day.It does take a lot of preparation work, but its the preparation work that opens the door to the language, the SRS methodology is what makes it STICK...
Any additional comments?
If you want fast, permanent fluency in any language, are willing to work to get it, and love exploring the magic of languages, this is the method you are looking for....

I have tried more learning German systems than I can remember. From Rosetta Stone to intensive classes. This audiobook is excellent
As a book it is a very intelligent, insightful and easy to follow reading. I got a lot of practical tips and correct ways to study a language, as well as the reasoning behind everything.
The audiobook reading is superb. The accents for foreign languages are on point, the reading moods conveying, and I didn't need any chart or visual aid (although it has a mobile friendly website for footnotes of these kind). I like to listen to it for its insights and humor.
