Publisher's Summary

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is Chicago's only openly practicing wizard. He is also dead broke. His vast knowledge and magical skills are unfortunately matched by his talent for making powerful enemies and alienating friends. With little more than his integrity left, he accepts an offer of work from Lt. Karin Murphy of Chicago's Special Investigations Unit. He wants to redeem himself in Murphy's eyes and make enough money to quiet his rumbling stomach.

Soon he finds himself pinned between trigger-happy FBI agents, shape-shifiting motorcycle gang members, a threatened mobster boss, and an heir to an ancient curse along with his primal fiance. Throw in environmental activists and a pair of young werewolves in love and you have something of Fool Moon.

Great story - Can't tolerate narrator's noises

Narrator has a good voice for the character but needs to control or edit out his swallowing sounds! I would enjoy many more in this series except I can't tolerate the sound any more. I couldn't even finish the story. Too bad.

Leaves a bit to be desired, but worth it!

Somehow, the second installment didn't captivate me quite as swiftly as the first one did.

This book is another well-written insight to the urban fantasy of Butcher's universe, and still worth checking out if you enjoyed the first book. Marsters is still the perfect casting choice for the narration and I thoroughly enjoyed his performance. Would I call it a worthy sequel, though? Not quite.

Writing-wise, I feel as if too many new characters and plot threads were introduced to make the plot sufficiently compelling. Murphy, who was one of my favourite characters in the first installment, feels like a caricature of herself, here--the once-endearing character traits of a strong moral compass and lawful stubbornness overblown to offer little more than annoying interruptions and obstacles for Dresden at the most inconvenient times. Marconi also felt like a shade of his former self, his eerie sense of unmatched power, influence, and greed now an unfounded joke in light of the plot's progression. The majority of new characters introduced felt flat and one-dimensional, only present to serve very specific roles in the carefully crafted outline of the mystery.

Agent Denten, on the other hand, was fantastically written! He was realistic, formidable, strong, and fabulously intimidating. One of my favourite parts of the book was the soulgaze he exchanged with Dresden--what an awe-inspiring turn of prose. Without giving too much away, his role was the highlight of this story for me, and I honestly feel as if the addition of the weaker cast mates on his team diluted his impact as a character.

I also really enjoyed Susan's character development and the development of her relationship with Dresden, as well. She was fleshed out a bit more, given a bit more personality and motivation and agency, and I love her all the more for it. I do hope we get to see more of her and Dresden in the future.

All in all, this was still an entertaining read! I will definitely be continuing the series as I am excited to see where Dresden's adventures take him next.

Mouth Sounds Alert

Would have been an excellent narration with the actors voice well suited to the role. However the performance was marred by mouth sounds that could have been edited out. It had a significant impact, enough so that I would not advise others to listen to this version. Grossed me out!

Wizards and werewolves and James 😍

I started listening to these novels for James narration. But stayed for the world building and Harry’s character arc. In my top 5 of audible fantasy series.

Good Read

Struggled a bit st the beginning - a little drab with the narration, but it got better. overall pretty good, and added the rest of the Dryden series to my wish list 😁

A great sequel to a great series

Probably one of many frenzied and action filled books of the series. A gripping read.

omg the mouth noises

I really struggled through book 1 due to the narrators heavy breathing, sighs, and smacking mouth noises. Against my better judgment I got book two... I enjoy the characters, the story... but dear god the mouth noises drive me crazy!

REAL World Wizard.

A Wizard as he would be in the REAL WORLD...
Just a regular guy, but he's a Wizard. Not a fantasy story, not a fantasy world. Well written by a great story teller. Well narrated; not over the top or overly dramatic, and certainly not monotone or dreary, simply telling the story of what happened. I personally appreciate when the narrator let's the story speak for its self... well done, gimme more.
