Publisher's Summary

Corey Curtis is coasting. At 33, she's in the best shape of her life and has a satisfying position at Jackson City Memorial Hospital. With a good paycheck, great friends, and occasional relationships with smart, beautiful women, she couldn't be happier. She thinks.

Dr. Thayer Reynolds, whiling away some time before the start of her Emergency Department fellowship at JCMH and intrigued by the stories she's heard, crashes the morgue to get a look at Corey - the woman her young colleagues are whispering about.

Totally spinning from her first interactions with Thayer, Corey throws herself into the post-mortem exam of a construction worker who fell to his death, which isn't at all suspicious - until it is. With no support from her boss or the police, Corey investigates the death on her own. Making bad decisions with good intentions, she recklessly endangers her own life and Thayer's.

Even worse - she potentially dooms any chance of a real relationship with Thayer before it even gets started.

I’m glad I gave this book a chance

I fancy myself a connoisseur of lesfic audiobooks and admittedly I had never heard of author, Carolyn Elizabeth. I saw this title was included with my audible subscription and one day, out of sheer boredom, I listened. I’m glad I did.

It was an easy listen with some mystery and suspense and a respectable slow burn romance with just enough steamy in the right places. It felt original and authentic. I listened to the whole thing in one go.

My only disclaimer is that if you are at all squeamish, you might have trouble with the first 1/3 of the story. I was making dinner and chopping raw meat during the autopsy scene and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to stomach it. LoL but it’s not ongoing through the whole story so I wouldn’t say it would deter me from recommending this book. I intend to listen to the next two books asap.

Lori Prince does a stellar job as usual. She inserts the right amount of humour in her narration and really makes it enjoyable to listen. A+

A bit too brief

I felt like this story was not really fleshed out enough on any front: medical/forensic, suspense, or romance. Romance was definitely the strongest contender, though, and as there are more in the series focused on the same relationship that's probably just a good start so I'm not docking it points for that. I might have given it 5 stars, despite its flaws, if the humour had hit with me but it doesn't, through no fault of Lori Prince who has had me crying and breathless with laughter with her narration of some other books (specifically Next Time by Robin Alexander).
