Publisher's Summary

The thrilling conclusion to The Extinction Files is finally here!

A code hidden in the human genome...will reveal the ultimate secret of human existence.

And could hold humanity's only hope of survival.

In 2003, the first human genome was sequenced. But the secrets it held were never revealed.

The truth was discovered 30 years ago, almost by accident. Dr. Paul Kraus had spent his entire career searching for what he called humanity's lost tribes - human ancestors who had gone extinct. When Kraus compared the DNA samples of the lost tribes with our own, he found a pattern of changes: a code. At the time, the technology didn't exist to unravel what it meant. To protect the secret, Kraus hid his work and disappeared. Now the technology exists to finally understand the mysterious code buried in the human genome, but finding the pieces of Kraus' research is more dangerous than anyone imagined.

Dr. Peyton Shaw and her mother have obtained part of Kraus' research - and a cryptic message that could lead to the remaining pieces. They believe his work is the key to stopping a global conspiracy - and an event that will change humanity forever.

The ultimate secret, buried in the human genome, will change our very understanding of what it means to be human. For Peyton, finding it may come at an incredible price. She must weigh the lives of strangers against those she loves: Desmond Hughes and her mother. With time running out, Peyton makes a fateful choice - one that can never be undone.

Great book, and great series

This was a great book. I enjoyed the story and the performance. There were a few things I missed but the book is so good, I'm going to go back for a second listen.

okayish

Narration is better than the story itself. Interesting premise but too many cartoon characters for it to truly work.

Excellent conclusion to an engrossing series!

Eduardo Ballerini is an extremely talented narrator. I particularly enjoyed the way that Riddell builds this story layer by layer and memory by memory to its engrossing conclusion and still somehow manages to end with the ultimate mind-bender as his very last word.

Good, but not as good as the first one

I did enjoy this book, but I found that for some reason I just wasn't as engaged in the story so much as the first book. This book spends a lot of time on the characters' backgrounds and relationships, and it seems like the action part of the plot was a bit under-developed. At times it seems like you have to remind yourself "oh yeah, world as we know it could end." The narrator did a great job again, though Uri sometimes seemed a bit Dracula-ish and there was a portion where Peyton became a southern belle for a bit, and I'm glad that didn't seem to last. Really quite different from the first book, with more of a focus on the tech part rather than the disease part.

Excellent

Loved the story. Made driving and housework a lot more pleasant. Enjoyed the characters but I found the ending came across as a bit of an afterthought

Good. But not as immersive as the first.

Good book, but the storyline gets a little muddled near the end. The final chapters seem to try too hard to just finish off the story. They seem rushed.

I really enjoyed this series

Overall this was a very good series. The narrator was excellent.

One must definitely suspend disbelief but some of the scenarios do a a small ring of truth.
