Description

"There aren't many questions in life that if you find the answer to them, it can change everything. But asking who God is and what he is like are two of those questions, and John Mark Comer brilliantly answers them in this book." (Jefferson Bethke)

Many of us ache for relationship with God, yet feel distant and disconnected from him. As if he's more of an idea we believe in our head than a person we relate to. But God has a name: Yahweh. This one simple idea has the potential to radically alter how you relate to God, not as a doctrine, but as a relational being who responds to you in an elastic, back-and-forth way.

Why do we feel this gap between us and God? Could it be that a lot of what we think about God is wrong? Not all wrong, but wrong enough to mess up how we relate to him? What if our "God" is really a projection of our own identity, ideas, and desires? And what if the real God is different, but far better than we could ever imagine?

This book is a simple, but profound guide to what God says about himself. In his signature conversational-but-smart style, John Mark Comer takes you line by line through Exodus 34:6-8 - Yahweh's self-revelation on Mount Sinai - called by some scholars the one most quoted verse in the Bible, by the Bible. In it, we see who God says he is.

Wherever you are in your spiritual journey, who God is just might surprise you, and change everything.

Amazing!

Loved this book! Glad that it was narrated by the author himself! The content was really good. Put into better perspective God's compassionate and gracious character. A good read if you want to know and understand God more.

fantastic

A breath of fresh air exploring who Yahweh actually is, not just who I thought He was. He is so much bigger. Mr Comer did a great job writing this book and reading it. I hate it when people loosely toss the term "life changing" around, but this book can be.

An Incredibly Important Book!

Whether you have been a Christian for decades, are new to the faith, or are just curious about what is different about Biblical faith, this book will unlock the truths found in an overlooked but pivotal passage from Exodus. I have listed to it through four times. With John Mark Comer doing the reading, I felt like I was sitting with him. I don't have the words to describe the impact this book has had on my heart and mind.

Stunning

The study and research time put into compiling this book is astounding! It had me on the edge of my seat all the way through. I love that the author read the book for Audible. He was able to put his enthusiasm and voice into every word making it flow and easily understood.

Highly Recommend

John Mark has a way of writing that makes you feel as if you were sitting across from him at a coffee shop, having a conversation. He breaks down passages of the Bible, making it relatable to modern times and easy to digest for the reader. I highly recommend.

The father’s heart

I believe I was one of those who think of the father as the grumpy old man who poured out His wrath on His son Jesus whom to me was the more loving and fun one; even though I believed they are one I somehow found it easier to think of Jesus than God the father because I just didn’t know how to view Him and relate to Him. Now my mind is stuck in Exodus 34 and I think of Him being deeply compassionate and merciful towards me ! Thank you for opening my eyes through this book. I gave one less star for overall because I did not like how the author used examples of different places in a way that encourages the continuation of certain negative stereotypes against places. I am an African and I felt maybe this book was meant for an American audience but well I read it and it blessed me but I do not like the image of sorcery for example being associated with the entire African continent. It does happen there in some countries just like it does anywhere else in the world but it is not a representation of what all Africans or African nations practice, as a matter of fact there is more active Christianity in Africa now than in the west.

Powerful and Challenging

I enjoyed learning more about the name of God and his character.
I don't always enjoy being challenged but it beats living a dormant life of ease.
Growth and maturity in Christ Jesus are what I seek. You won't be disappointed.

Best book all year

This book is one of the best books I have read so far this year! I have always enjoyed John Mark and his approach to speaking and writing. I love the way he breaks down the scripture and points out that what the Bible says may actually be different that what Christian culture typically believes. Totally worth the read/listen!
