Publisher's Summary

The official novelization of the highly anticipated revamp of the classic horror film Halloween.

In 1978, Laurie Strode survived an encounter with Michael Myers, a masked figure who killed her friends and terrorized the town of Haddonfield, Illinois, on Halloween night. Myers was later gunned down, apprehended, and committed to Smith's Grove State Hospital.

For forty years, memories of that nightmarish ordeal have haunted Laurie and now Myers is back once again on Halloween, having escaped a routine transfer, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. This time, Laurie is prepared with years of survival training to protect herself, her daughter Karen and her granddaughter Allyson, a teenager separated from her family and enjoying Halloween festivities.

So good!

When I got this audiobook, I did so thinking it was the novelization of the old original Halloween movie. I love that movie so much that I've watched it every Halloween night for years now. I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually the first of new Halloween movies that was released in 2018, I really loved the movie! Jamie Lee Curtis's acting was perfection! Listening to this audiobook was just like watching the movie again! I really liked it because I got to know the characters better, what they where thinking and feeling as well as what they were saying and doing. It was really nice and gave a fuller, more in depth experience overall that I appreciated. I need to look to see if there is a Halloween Kills movie novelization now. I am excited for the new Halloween Ends movie!

Fantastic!

I absolutely loved this novel and it’s movie series. I also liked the little subtile differences between the two, like reading from ‘the shapes’ perspective. The narrator does a great job!

Great way to start October

Really enjoyed the performance of this book. Able to keep characters separated. Definitely better than the movie.

*Note: This is the 2018 film

I was kind of hoping for an audiobook version of John Carpenter's classic 1978 horror movie.. but this is a version of the recently-released film with Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her Laurie Strode role of 40 years ago. It's still decent - just not what I thought I had found.
Nevertheless, John Passarella does a very nice job translating the screenplay to the novel format - faithful to the dialogue and describing often frightening/gory scenes with mind's-eye vivid accuracy. The final confrontation at Laurie's house sets the heart racing. Less fortunately, Passarella's pacing is awful. The Halloween Dance scene is *painfully* drawn out, for example. This nine hour audiobook could have been delivered effectively in six.

Thankfully, the reading from Emily Sutton-Smith is above-average. She is slightly sibilant and reads far too slow (I suggest listening at 1.25X), but her diction is excellent and her portrayal of fear actually makes the audiobook more enjoyable than it merits.

Altogether, I give this iteration of a fun slasher flick 6.5 stars out of 10. I downloaded it for Free as part of my Audible subscription, but it would be worth a Credit for dedicated horror movie fans.
