Description

He likes her. She hates him. The puppy loves them both.

Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennet get off to a rocky start. Can three-month-old Scottish sheepdog, Henry, herd two stubborn individuals together long enough to realize they are the perfect partners for a lifetime?

Join in the frustration and fun when Mr. Darcy is forced to retrieve his errant puppy daily as Henry scampers from Netherfield Park to Elizabeth’s home of Longbourn. Told from her point of view, when she repeatedly spies haughty Mr. Darcy humbly showing affection to the puppy, Elizabeth is forced to acknowledge that first impressions might not always be accurate. Danger lurks, causing them to work together until Henry is safe.

Is Mr. Darcy’s bark worse than his bite? Will Elizabeth remain as stubborn as a dog with a bone? This novella is a blend of cranky personalities, blooming affection, and wagging puppy tails. Enjoy this Regency variation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice - where it truly is a dog’s life.

About a man, his dog, and a girl.

This is a story I would actually love to see filmed because it is a delightfully funny story. The visuals, particularly when Lizzy is caught up in the gothic romance she's reading and then having to focus on the real world are chuckle worthy.

This is not a highly romantic story nor is it intended to be one. It's a story about a delightful dog named Henry bringing his two favorite people -- his owner, Darcy, and his new friend, Lizzy -- together. It has a humorous gothic feel which is delightful. I suspect the author wrote the entire thing with her tongue firmly in her cheek. If you remember, Jane Austen wrote Northanger Abbey as a response to people fussing at her for reading gothic novels, and I suspect Capps is doing the same here.

Henry is a delight and reason alone to read the story.

The narrator, for the most part, is great. The male voices are a bit odd but as this isn't a particularly romantic tale, that isn't as bad as it could be, though Mr Bennet has a classic hand rubbing, curly mustache bad guy sound to his voice. I wish she'd given that voice to Wickham! If she had better male voices, I would rate this higher. As is, when she's just telling the story, she is fantastic.

Giving Kitty a lisp was a good choice because it made her stand out in ways that she doesn't in canon.

One drawback is the rerecorded bits here and there don't match and they are obnoxious. But there were only a handful of those so it could have been worse.

The real romance in this is between Lizzy and the puppy and THAT is the cutest part.

Meh

I normally love this author, but this story too contrived- even for me. I tend to be fairly forgiving with my JAFF. The recording sounded like a drunk woman produced it in her bathroom and it made a marginal story unbearable. Try one of this author’s other works, read the kindle version.

This book was hard to follow

I don’t know if it me or a bad book. I have read many from this author all good but this one was really not here or there. Hard to follow. Mr Darcy was very odd. I think I smiled once and that was to a comment from Lydia. No I do not recommend this book and I have read JAFF for 20 years.
