Publisher's Summary

In the newest installment of the best-selling series Mythos, legendary author and actor Stephen Fry moves from the exploits of the Olympian gods to the deeds of mortal heroes.

Perseus. Jason. Atalanta. Theseus. Heracles. Rediscover the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths. Whether recounting a tender love affair or a heroic triumph, Fry deftly finds resonance with our own modern minds and hearts.

  • Each adventure is infused with Fry's distinctive voice and writing style.
  • Connoisseurs of the Greek myths will appreciate this fresh-yet-reverential interpretation, while newcomers will feel welcome.
  • Retellings brim with humor and emotion.

"Mostly Chiron saw in the child, and the young man he became, boundless courage, athleticism, intelligence, and ambition. He saw too lots of words beginning with 'self', which gave him pause. Self-belief, self-possession, self-righteousness, self-confidence, self-love. Perhaps these characteristics are as necessary to a hero as courage."

In Heroes, Fry draws out the humor and pathos in both tender love affairs and heroic battles, and reveals each myth's relevance for our own time.

Heroes for the win

Another great Greek mythology book from Stephen Fry.
He brings the stories to life both with his excellent writing and his always engaging narration.

entertaining Greek myths

Really good book. Of course, Fry is the perfect narrator for his material. It is presented in a way that is much easier to understand and more engaging than lots of the classics. He mentions the violence perpetrated by the 'heroes' as a bit of human weakness, but I'm not sure I would be that lenient. The stories (whether complete myth or loosely based on real people) are of characters who did both great and terrible things and hero is more of broad category. (ie Heracles and his family...)

Stephen Fry does it again.

Like ‘Mythos’, this volume is entertaining, educational and wonderfully narrated by Fry. Even if one has a passing interest in myths, Fry’s two volumes will enhance that interest. Strongly recommended series.

Incredible

Saw this on stage at the Shaw Festival. Was captivated by Mr Fry’s in depth knowledge of mythology and his delivery of material he knows so well. This audiobook is an extension of that passion and excellence!

Stephen Fry is outstanding. He makes the stories sound hilarious and engaging. I can’t imagine anyone better than him doing this. Love the whole myth trilogy.

Sir Fry always weaves storys and his interpretation of them seamlessly into a epic tapestry. Thank you for the book i will look forward to hearing it again.

Greek legends playfully and thoughtfully retold

Classical content with a modern take on the Greek heroes, performed brilliantly by Stephen Fry. With no prior knowledge of Greek history I started the book because I love his narration in other works and quickly became interested in the subject.
