Publisher's Summary

Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring wardrobes, shattered Brooka glassware, and vandalized Liripip sofa beds—clearly someone, or something, is up to no good. To unravel the mystery, five young employees volunteer for a long dusk-till-dawn shift and encounter horrors that defy imagination. Along the way, author Grady Hendrix infuses sly social commentary on the nature of work in the new 21st-century economy.

A traditional haunted house story in a contemporary setting, and full of current fears, Horrorstör delivers a high-concept premise in a unique style.

not as good as I hoped.

the book is very young adult but the premise was intriguing but not good enough with a lot left unanswered, but I still wish there was a better ending to it all, just as i started to like where it was going it ends...

Awesome dark comedy horror

Recently discovered Grady Hendrix, and this muggy be my favorite book of his. Dark, disturbing, horrific, yet darkly funny. It's great.

my favourite Grady Hendrix to date

more horror than other books I've read or listened to by Hendrix. reminds me of Chuck Palahniuk books in a way.

Fell short

I just read “my best friend’s exorcism” and enjoyed it so much I downloaded this one right away.
It wasn’t as scary, and I felt like it was very repetitive. I didn’t enjoy it very much, wasn’t very thrilling, I was waiting for all the main action but it was secluded and left things out.

Creepy Ikea story

I am drawn to any story that is set in an Ikea and where weird things happen. This isn't Ikea, it's an Ikea knockoff store, but it's still more or less Ikea in every way that matters.
It's creepy.
It's also an adventure informed by the reality of dead end retail work. If you've had any experience of that, it's better. I've only worked a bit of retail, but could feel the reality of that commentary. Which is subtle, but definitely there. Just in the way that the store runs.
The creepiness sets in shortly after the story ends, and fills the rest of the novel.
Highly enjoyable.
Note - according to Audible, there's an accompanying PDF to this. When I was mentioning this to a friend, he had read the book in text format, and mentioned that he loved the drawing and diagrams. So that's something to remember and check out. I enjoyed it even without them, but there are places where they comment on things, and it makes sense that they would be illustrated.

I wasn’t sure at first but loved it

It was a slow start for me. A slow burn. But I got a feel for the characters and didn’t look back. Re

Weirdest book I've read

This one really surprised me. I had no idea what to expect and it took a while for the story to get going, but the second half was really enjoyable for me. It was a good mix of ridiculous and creepy! I especially thought the beginning of chapters listing "Ikea" furniture was a creative touch. Overall, this was an enjoyable listen!

Meh

It was a fun ride, and short one. But i think this book would be better as a short film. I think what killed it the most was the narration unfortunately. Always the same tone and manner of speaking, barely any changes in the characters, and very very nasally. Not the best choice of narrator for a horror, she took all the scary out of it with how she spoke evenly with no emotion. Not to mention, if it says "she whispered", could you at least try and whisper the line??
On a better note, the horror aspects were fun, and reminded me a lot of Event Horizon. It's an alright book, and left me kinda meh in the end. I don't know what I wanted, but I wanted more. Still cool
