Publisher's Summary
Are you hungry to help others through leadership but don't feel like you have the authority?
One of the greatest myths of leadership is that you must be in charge in order to lead. Great leaders don't buy it. Great leaders - whether they have the official authority or not - learn how to be an influential presence wherever they are.
In How to Lead When You're Not in Charge, author and pastor Clay Scroggins explains the nature of leadership and what's needed to be a great leader - even when you answer to someone else.
Drawing from biblical principles and his experience as the lead pastor of Buckhead Church in Atlanta, Georgia, Clay will help you nurture your vision and cultivate influence with integrity and confidence, even when you lack authority in your organization or ministry.
In this audiobook, Clay will walk you through the challenge of leadership and the four basic behaviors all great leaders have and how to cultivate them:
- Leading yourself
- Choosing positivity
- Thinking critically
- Rejecting passivity
With practical wisdom and humor, Clay Scroggins will help you free yourself to become the great leader you want to be so you can make a difference. Even when you're not in charge.

Good content but too religious.
Overall some good content but I wish there was a warning on the religious references. I am not a church goer and found a lot of the religious content irrelevant.

Empowering
This book is both refreshing and inspiring but overall it is empowering. I truly enjoyed reading Scrogging, he is a great narrator. Some of his teachings are things that many have said before (refreshing) but Scroggins has the ability to remind us of known concepts in a very witty and funny way which makes it easier to remember.
This is very good for anyone in life who is working next to the main leader and who desires to make a positive and lasting difference in the life of the overall organization and in their own life.
Thank you soo much for this work. Many of us need it!

Worth it!
Scroggins narrates the book in a way that it feels like he is delivering a message from the pulpit. For the most part he builds on many of Covey's ideas but from the different, more focused perspective of leading when you are not in charge. His style is easy to listen to and he creates a language around the ideas that help you remember the big ideas (ex: we need to build a "quality oasis" around ourselves).
I really enjoyed this book and know you will too. Hope this review was helpful.

Vocal Fry and Proselytizing
The author/narrator is grating to listen to - he has the most vocal fry I've ever heard in a supposedly straight man. The book is frustrating with how much the author weaves his faith into it. I'm not here to get converted.

Disappointing
I've listened to motivating books with a religious undertone but this is next level. By the end you're just listening to bible quotes.
I was really hoping to get a more practical and real world outlook. Let me be clear there is none of that here. What a waste of money.

God and bloat, no fact, no logic no studies
This is a God/Pastor styled Dr. Phil feel good book about taking personal responsibility and it has marketed itself as a instructional psychology book.
The book does not cite any social studies or studies to psychology, nor does it have practical tips to apply to your life.
Expect to hear him refer to authority of god/bible, pop culture references and anecdotal stories that makes you regret not vetting the book more thoroughly.
STAY AWAY!

extremely religious...
I bought this book to help with leadership. little did I know that this book was written by a church minister. every example ties into the Bible somehow. this is not indicated in the description. got about an hour in before I had to shut it off. don't buy unless you go to or work at a church!
