Publisher's Summary

HypnoBirthing has gained momentum around the globe as a positive and empowering method of childbirth. Here's why: HypnoBirthing helps women to become empowered by developing an awareness of the instinctive birthing capability of their bodies. It greatly reduces the pain of labor and childbirth; frequently eliminates the need for drugs; reduces the need for caesarian surgery or other doctor-controlled birth interventions; and it also shortens birthing and recovery time, allowing for better and earlier bonding with the baby, which has been proven to be vital to the mother-child bond. What's more, parents report their infants sleep better and feed more easily when they haven't experienced birth trauma.

HypnoBirthing founder Marie Mongan knows from her own four births that it is not necessary for childbirth to be a terribly painful experience. In this audiobook, she shows women how the Mongan Method works and how parents can take control of the greatest and most important event of their lives.

So, why is birth such a traumatic event for so many women? And why do more than 40 percent of births now end in caesarian section, the highest percentage in history? The answer is simple: because our culture teaches women to fear birth as a painful and unsettling experience. Fear causes three physical reactions in the body - tightening of the muscles, reduced blood flow to the birthing muscles, and the release of certain hormones - which increase the pain and discomfort of childbirth. This is not hocus-pocus - this is science.

Only good if your taking a physical course

I ended up returning this audio book. She went over a few meditations but the amount of times she would say, "you'll learn more about this in your hypnobirthing class." Not much help to someone who is not taking a class and instead is just wanting to gain the knowledge from various books. Did enjoy learning about the history of hypnosis though.

very outdated

insufficient, absent, or outdated research. i.e. personal observation as a child of a cat in labor as a base of theories.... I was quite skeptical throughout the book. also infused with the author's trauma and distrust in the medical profession which perhaps in the 70's was valid, but now in the 2020s, it's just too outdated (found this mindset quite unhelpful). Also lucking actual technics and tools. Would not recommend.

Helped my birth

I found the techniques described in the book helped me get through labour unmedicated. If this is a first pregnancy, I recommend reading this book as it dives into body autonomy, what can happen when there are interventions, and how to prepare for doctors that push these procedures. I did find the book to be redundant for the first half, but if it was my first time giving birth, I probably would have been more interested.

A must read from top to bottom! I feel so empowered!!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book! Thoroughly impressed with the information and relaxation techniques provided.
It provides the history of child birthing with the same sort of accuracy I received during my university education.
I highly recommend reading this book from top to bottom. Yes, she references the power of attending a class in person but if you are actually paying attention, ALL the information you need to prepare for birth on your own is given in this resource.
The philosophy provided is one that can be applied to all of life and especially once becoming a parent… taking a moment to breathe, trusting your instincts and the intuitive nature that is inherent within us all… absolutely love this book!

Better if used in combo with a hypnobirth class

Some helpful info in here, but not the 'Intro to Hypnobirthing' I was hoping for. The author references 'your hypnobirthing class/instructor' a lot. This book should probably be read in combination with an actual class to get the full value out of it.

No Chapter Titles, Part Empowering Part Anxiety-Inducing.

No Chapter Titles, Part Empowering Part Anxiety-Inducing.

Trying to find the information I want, but unable because of the lack of chapter titles.

Some of the information is a bit much… the techniques are great to have as tools but I don’t enjoy the seriously negative talk of interventions.

Judgemental and Fear Enducing

Not a fan. I honestly was not worried about childbirth, but decided to try this book based on a good friends high recommendation. The way this book starts made me get a bit anxious. They kept bashing childbirth that isn't hypnobirthing and how terrible it is. Heavily implying that if you don't follow hypnobirthing, you're practicing medieval medicine. Very disappointed.

Love

I loved this book. My only wish is to have a linked book or resource to listen to relaxation techniques. Etc. Otherwise super informative and inspiring.

This book is good for knowledge but not helpful unless you take an in person class
