Story
When Matt Ballard was starting out his career, three boys were murdered in the same area, the remote and bleak Gibbet Fen. When the main suspect was killed in a hit-and-run, the killings stopped. But Matt was not satisfied that the real murderer had been caught. Over 25 years later, Matt gets a photo in an unmarked envelope. It's of the Gibbet Fen crime scene. And the picture was taken before the murder took place. More photos arrive, relating to the historic murders, as well as intimate pictures of Matt's very secret private life.

Unnecessary use of one word
I'd like to preface that I absolutely love the Joy Ellis books.
The narrators for pretty much all books are great, stories are great and performance is great.
Unfortunately, the use of one word in this and also in the last DI Nikki Galena series has put me off. Even in 2017 when this was written, it was unnecessary to use the 'R' word to describe anyone. It's derogatory and offensive to those that this refers to.
Hearing it once soured me, hearing it again has saddened me.
Great story until I had to stop listening at chapter 8.

Narrator
Although overall done well, several of the accents and tone pitches were grating. Not my favourite narrator.

Better played at slower speed
Not a fan of this narrator, she reads far too fast. Played at .9 makes it much better than the default speed.

Another enjoyable twisty, turny, murder mystery!
Another enjoyable twisty, turny, murder mystery written by Joy Ellis and narrated by Henrietta Meire! Full of well-rounded characters, some liked, and some not so much. I really like the series so much, I'm now on to Book 5: Stalker on the Fens!

Great start to a series!
I started off listening to the Jackman and Evans series and absolutely needed more from this author once I finished the available titles from that series. I am really enjoying this series so far! The characters are great - they start to feel familiar as friends the more you listen. I enjoyed this plot and the narrator is great. I’m so pleased to have found this author!

A satisfying twisty tale
This is another excellent, well told story by Joy Ellis. It has the right amount of mystery and twists to satisfy most people. I really enjoy the D. I. Galena series with its cast of well developed characters.
The narration by Henrietta Meire is excellent as usual.
