the greatest story ever told

It is of little surprise when a book is of a higher quality than that of its film adaptation which is why I decided to add this to my que despite my familiarity of the story.
it has been said of this book that it is "the greatest story ever told". Though I do not make such a claim myself I can hardly argue that it is lesser than any other story I know. It has even overthrown the Count of Monte Cristo in my mind as the best french novel of that period

Skip the musical

The characters are more interesting and the long 19th century so much more alive in George Guidall's reading than either on the stage or in the screen.

Just amazing!

The book’s translation has a flow to it that you would think it was written in English by victor Hugo and the narrator really put the cherry on top of the perfection . An amazing read 100% recommended.

Too much history.

I liked parts but the story was overridden by history. Too long with story part only a third of the book at best.

Exquisite Performance

I can imagine no better narrator for this book.
I have to confess tho, this book took me a long time to finish. but it was rewarding in the end.

Worth the Listen

This is a very long book but it was definitely worth the listen. Despite taking place over 200 years ago, the issues written about are still relevant today. Hugo's use of imagery paints a vivid picture and the story keeps you engaged throughout. This is truly a masterpiece and it makes perfect sense why Hugo now rests in the Pantheon.

A Great Example of Mercy and Redemption

probably only someone raised by an atheist and a devout Catholic could have come up with this brilliant argument for love and forgiveness
