I watched the series first...
... and because I loved the series I thought I would read/listen to the books. I particularly enjoyed in the series, seeing all people of colour in every level of society without ever being mentioned as something special or different. This is exactly how it should be.
Of course there was nothing of that in the books. Maybe because it was published in 2000, the book does not cover anywhere the subject of skin colour. However listening to the book, I saw in my head all the characters from the series, and it was very rewarding.
I did find some humour in the book, however there were less opportunities for laughter in the book than in the series (the Queen sniffing "something" made me laugh out loud!)

it was a great listen. I did watch the movie first. but the book was much better. it was great ending. which the movie dont get to. loved it

Not for everyone but I enjoyed it
I thought the story was very interesting. It spoke a lot about fulfilment and how to live one’s life for themselves. I thought the characters grew tremendously throughout the story. It also shines a bright light on how dangerous ignorance is. Please remember the story is set in 1813 so you cannot apply 2023 relationship standards.

Not Bad but…
I didn’t mind the story. It was a typical romance. I watched Bridgerton first so it was quite a bit different.
I disliked the narration. The accent was charming and endearing BUT when she tried to do different voices it was annoying and unnecessary. I’m not a small child that you have to try to make reading fun or zazz up the story. I was really glad when the novel was over.

Not My Favourite
I have many feelings about this book, and even some notes about specific scenes that particularly bothered me, but I'm honestly just too tired to get into it. Suffice it to say, I enjoyed the plot, but I do not like this author's way of writing. I've tried reading her books before, and while she has a decent sense of humour, and her descriptions can be lovely, I don't like the omniscient POV (I prefer tight third in HR novels), among other things.
Honestly, I look forward to when this comes out on Netflix, because I think that I'll like the way it's portrayed far better on film than how it's written. Not sure if I'll read the others in the series, despite having already bought the next one.
