Description
Plum Kettle does her best not to be noticed because when you're fat, to be noticed is to be judged. She is biding her time at a job answering fan mail for a popular teen girls' magazine until she can afford weight-loss surgery. But lately she is being followed by a girl in outlandish clothes and combat boots.
When Plum finally confronts her, she finds herself falling into the mysterious world of Calliope House, where an odd collection of women orbit around Verena Baptist, daughter of a famous diet guru. Verena offers to give Plum the money for the surgery, but there is a catch: First Plum must go through a series of seemingly perverse challenges that will force her to confront her past, her doubts, and the real cost of becoming "beautiful".

Great story questionable ending
For the most part the story was actually enjoyable. Plum’s struggles to find herself and the path set forth before her was enough to keep the story moving. The side story of Jennifer was where things went a little goofy and although the ending gave finality to the story in a way, it was just a bit too ridiculous, taking the story in a direction it really didn’t need to go in. Narration was great. It is a quick listen and overall enjoyable. The ending just left much to be desired.

Brilliant
Dark, hilarious, moving. It really helped me. It will take some time to wrap my head around all of it, but I already feel different in the way I think about myself and my body. I never want to diet again! For those who have seen the series, this is thematically similar, but the narrative and characters are quite different in important ways (I like the book better).

Buckle up your seatbelts!
This story is amazing. It’s a story within a story that becomes an even bigger story. This book deals with some heavy topics such as: eating disorders, fat shaming, sexual violence, pornography, and misconceptions about body image/sexual attractiveness in the media. Even though this book can be a little hard core, it’s also done with satire. Keep an open mind and enjoy the ride to Dietland!

disappointing ending
would've rated it much higher, but the ending was a huge let down. the build up was fantastic, really enjoyed it. in the end, I have mixed feelings about this one.

Dietland is pretty great but drags on.
the narrator was great! the story was great (until it just dragged on and nothing interesting happens and the author explains the painfully obvious over and over again and it's still not interesting)
I wish I came across more books like this.

A Book for Our Feminist Age
So many women, regardless of what they look like, think or do are socialized to despise themselves. To feel they will never measure up. In this story protagonist Plum overcomes her social programming and learns to love herself in spite of being vilified in a world where no woman feels good enough.

Cool Idea
I enjoyed this book. It was well written and I liked the characters. But it feels like something is missing. I felt like the ending was a bit 'thrown together' and not at all what I had been expecting. A little anti climatic. But.. I loved the message about loving yourself <3
