Description

In 19th century Tsarist Russia an orphaned child born of Jewish and Cossack blood grows up in a land of wealthy aristocrats, struggling peasants, and growing discontent. Sent to an elite military academy at the tender age of four, Sergei Ivanov (Socrates) comes of age training to protect a way of life he doesn't understand. When a sudden death forces Sergei to flee, he escapes into the wilderness.

From the heights of love to the depths of despair, from the threat of a mortal enemy to the search for a child he has never met, Sergei Ivanov's odyssey unlocks hidden wisdom at the heart of life. He could never have imagined that from the moment of his birth he was destined to become the peaceful warrior who would change the lives of millions worldwide. The odyssey that unfolds is not about the revolutions of history, but about the revolution in one man's heart. A stirring story emerges as Sergei encounters mentors and masters who reveal secrets about the arts of war and, ultimately, the path to peace.

Great Book!

I have read several Dan Milman's books and loved everyone of them. I expected more of a self help type of book told in a story, but it turned out to be one of the best stories I've read in a long time. Anyone who has read Way of the Peaceful Warrior will love this book and be astounded by how Dan ties it all together in the prologue.

Life Changing

I read "The Way of the Peaceful Warrior" prior to "The Rise of Socrates". These books radiate deep into my soul as if The Universe & God meant for me to hear their messages exactly at this moment in my life. They have woken up to life on mpre levels than I can begin to describe. The philosophies & inspirations drive every principle that I put into my company, my life's work, & my time I have here on this beautiful world. Thank you!

Fantastic Story

I was totally captivated by this book. I couldn't put it down. It has both emotional highs and lows. Some great insights into life and a great ending.

Probably the best story I've ever heard

After having read "the way of the peaceful warrior" I became very interested in the author Dan Millman and decided to look up another one of his books. Being very interested in the individual that is Socrates, the title "the Journeys of Socrates" spoke to me in particular. From the very beginning, I got drawn into the story and become even more interested as the story progressed. The story depicts the connectedness of all that is creating (in me at least) a certain trust and surrender to the incomprehensible ways of existence, God, the higher power, whatever you want to call it. This book genuinely rekindled a sense of trust in me in God that over the course of my troubled past couple of months I felt I had lost. It feels like I was meant to hear this. Thank you, Dan Millman, for writing this book.

Loved this book

After reading Way of a Warrior from Dan Millman I wanted to see if he wrote about what was in Socrates journal. Well he did and I think I enjoyed this book even more than his other and plan to read some of his other books as well.
