Description

Deepest night, Montana....
An eerie light proclaims the arrival of a mysterious watcher in the woods. And one solitary man begins a desperate battle against something unknown - and unknowable.

Broad daylight, Los Angeles....
An ordinary morning erupts in cataclysmic violence. A young family is shattered in a heartbeat.

Fate will lead this family to an isolated Montana ranch, but their sanctuary will become their worst nightmare. For there they will face a chillingly ruthless enemy, from which no one - living or dead - is safe.

WHAT the heck was that about?

Okay, in my opinion, Mr. Koontz must have been smoking the funny stuff back in the 90's when he threw this book together because it makes absolutely no sense. For hours, it goes on and on and on about a family in crisis when the cop Dad gets shot and while recovering his wacky wife and stoic 10 year old son struggle to keep it together. There is a lot of unnecessary stuff that the author throws in relating to the shooting that adds absolutely nothing to the plot. Then, for no plausible reason, the cop and family inherit a ranch in Wyoming and off they go to start a new life. But, wait, there's something lurking on their land; some kind of creature, from somewhere, that is up to something! And, by golly, even though this story continues to plunge into an even deeper abyss of confusion, the author throws in a snowplow driver to help save the day. Of course, the wacky wife, shot cop and their stoic kid help him do so... although I still can't figure out how. Oh, I mustn't forget to mention the dog - Golden Retriever of course - that pops in for no apparent reason in the middle of this literary mess. Honestly, I can't even complain about the money I wasted on Winter Moon because it is so bad, it gave me a laugh. (Kind of like that old movie, Plan 9 from Outer Space; it's terrible but you keep watching.) The one compliment I have is to Christopher Lane who can make the worst prose hurt the ears a little less.. .
