Histoire
Early one morning on the shore of the Thames, DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene of a gruesome discovery. When Owusu sends the evidence for examination, he learns the bones are connected to a cold case that left three people dead on the kitchen floor in a Chelsea mansion thirty years ago. Rachel Rimmer has also received a shock—her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France. All signs point to an intruder, and the French police need her to come urgently to answer questions about Michael and his past that she very much doesn’t want to answer.

Bestselling mystery writer Lucy Harper's talent for invention has given her fame, fortune, and an army of adoring readers. It has also saddled her with dependents, namely her fawning husband Dan. When Dan suddenly goes missing, his disappearance evokes dark memories that take Lucy back more than thirty years—to the day her brother vanished without a trace. That's when Lucy began conjuring stories. The police investigation revealed few confirmed details, so she created tales to fill in the gaps, to explain what happened that day her brother disappeared—and Lucy was the only witness.

Description
National Best Seller
New York Times Best Seller
Years ago someone lit a match....
Laura has spent most of her life being judged. She's seen as hot-tempered, troubled, a loner. Some even call her dangerous.
Miriam knows that just because Laura is witnessed leaving the scene of a horrific murder with blood on her clothes doesn't mean Laura is a killer. Bitter experience has taught her how easy it is to get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Carla is reeling from the brutal murder of her nephew. She trusts no one and no thing: good people are capable of terrible deeds. But how far will she go to find peace?
Innocent or guilty, everyone is carrying damage. Some are damaged enough to kill.
Look what you started.
Ce que les critiques en disent
INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER
INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF 2021 BY Marie Claire • Amazon • NPR
"The flaws of each character will surprise and perhaps even enchant you—and only a clairvoyant could anticipate the book's ending." —The New York Times Book Review
"I love Paula Hawkins, and this is why―A Slow Fire Burning twists and turns like a great thriller should, but it's also deep, intelligent and intensely human . . . the characters are just like people you know . . . or maybe even just like you yourself. Hawkins is proving herself a worthy 21st century heir to Barbara Vine and Patricia Highsmith." —Lee Child
"The unreliable narrator is a hallmark of many a thriller, but this book is a master class in not knowing who to believe. . . . Paula Hawkins' universe weaves together memory, imagination, wishful thinking and delusion to create a painful yet propulsive murder mystery in which no one comes out with their hands completely clean." —NPR

Outstanding narration, terrific story.
The story is tight, suspenseful, often heart-breaking and with just enough humour to give you a chance to catch your breath. Rosalind Pike is a brilliant narrator. She gives each character a voice (literally) without being cartoonish, and has fantastic dramatic pacing. So many audiobooks are ruined by lessened reading. This story may actually be improved, although I don’t want to take away from Paula Hawkins fantastic story, wonderful characters, and crackling plot twists!

Fantastic narration
Rosamund Pike did a phenomenal job reading this novel. Her voice was both soothing and lively and easy to follow. The story was great - the author did a nice job shaping the characters and keeping the story engaging. It had some great twists and turns and just enough suspense to keep you hooked.

I didn't like any of the characters, so it was hard to connect to the book.. there was no one to root for. I did finish the book as I was curious to see how it ended.

Extraordinary- one of the best audio books
Rosmund Pike was brilliant- story was so clever and the book in and of itself was genius- layer the ridiculously talented Rosamund pike who flawlessly goes from character to character, each with their own personality and this is 6 out of 5. Paula Hawkins is so masterful in weaving a complex web and landed this ending so perfectly- this equates to one of the most enjoyable books I’ve listened to to-date. Thank you and bravo!
