Description

Lawmen Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch must prevent all-out war between rival factions in the latest adventure in the New York Times best-selling series.

When gold is discovered in the foothills just outside of Appaloosa, it sets off a fight between two shrewd local business operations as their hired gun hands square off over the claim. First a young miner disappears, then another. And then one of the businessmen himself is killed, right on his front doorstep.

Meanwhile, as Cole and Hitch try to put a stop to the escalating violence, another killer is making his way toward town in pursuit of a long-lost dream and a mission of vengeance. Cole and Hitch will have their work cut out for them to keep the peace, especially when all these ruffians converge at the huge Appaloosa Days festival, where hundreds of innocent souls might get caught in the crossfire....

Truly terrible reader

Barb
A lot has been said about the book itself, but I want to comment on the reader. I’m not an actor, but I swear I did a better job in freshman year oral interpretation class. These books aren’t cheap, and we have been seriously shortchanged by the quality of this recording. Titus Welliver, we need you.

Could not make it through the first chapter

Voice - should not read his own work. Sounds like a hill billy. Reading ability not good.

Content - couldn’t get through it. Most of his previous work was getting too nasty...off color, and not Parkers standards.

Worst Narration in History !!!

The narrator sounded like a third grader learning to read while pointing a finger along.

Poor narration

Love this series but the narration is awful and I can’t finish it, will request a refund. Even Rex Lin was not bad (Titus Welliver was the best).

Pathetic Narration

terrible narrator....pathetic...such a sad end to this series to have it read with such painfully poor reading.

terrible

I've heard all of this series of Parkers books. This one doesn't deserve to carry his name, THE story is bad and the reader is terrible.PUblisher should be ashamed!

Bring back Rex Linn!

I couldn't finish it because of the narrator, that's why I gave the story a 3 instead of a 1. I've been so excited for this to come out but the narrator is so far inferior to Rex or Titus Welliver. I'm so disappointed.

What happened to Titus Welliver?

I thought that the narrator had perhaps not looked at the book before he read it until I discovered that the author was also the narrator. It was one of the most poorly read books I have listened to. The reading was jerky and hesitant in all the wrong places. It was so distracting that I skipped most of the last half hoping to find out who the main character's mother was — disappointment there too. And some of the story line was just plain weird. This is my last Hitch and Cole novel.

Not as good

Narrator was just the worst. I will no continue with this great series if he narrates again. No a worthy addition to Robert Parker’s characters.

Almost unlistenable

Have to agree with most of the reviews I read on this site. The read of this book by the author was so bad I couldn't finish the book. I struggled, because I love the characters so much and was so waiting for their next adventure. But the horrible accents, the stiff inflections, and so much more, just made it very hard to listen to. I kept imagining what the people who produced this must have been thinking. Did the author record it himself, at home, with no one else listening? That's the only answer as to how anyone let this get to the public.
About the story...the Cole and Hitch parts are good. Not great, but good. However, throwing in another story line every other chapter was annoying. It wasn't at all interesting, didn't in any way advance the main story, and completely slowed down the rest of the plot. I kept struggling to figure out why it was included. Unfortunately, because the read was so bad, I didn't finish the book so I will never know!!
