Description

Seven strangers. Two hours. One tragic moment of violence that changes everything.

In this electrifying short story by New York Times bestselling suspense master Jeffery Deaver, the destinies of seven strangers intersect in ways no one sees coming. It looks like just another gray March morning in the tough urban district nicknamed Nowhere when seven lives converge: a young man intent on buying a gun; the gangbanger who cuts him a deal; a by-the-book police officer on a last patrol; an advertising executive keeping secrets from her husband; a veteran haunted by a combat death; a single dad in a bitter custody battle; and a sharp-looking businessman en route to a new job he desperately needs. Any one of them could have a dark motive. Any one of them could be walking into a trap. When the fog lifts, it will all be much clearer - that a single, shattering act of violence has marked each of them forever.

A little gem

Really enjoyed this short story. Reminds us how our lives and the choices we make intersect with the lives of others.

Not my style

I have read or listened most of the Lincoln Rhyme books but the language was to much in this book. After about 10 minutes I trashed the book and audio book.

Surprising

This short was a pleasure to read. At first I thought there were far too many characters for such a short read, because they were all introduced with a short bio. However , the author arranged the plot in such a surprising and suspenseful manner it prevents you from predicting accurately what was next. He simply surprises you!! Thanks

Ninth and Nowhere focuses on several seemingly unrelated characters who all interconnect brilliantly. Playing on appearance and perception, Ninth and Nowhere shows that not everyone and everything M is as it seems.

Terrific Short Story<br />

Deaver has done it again. Amazing short story with great characterizations. The twists are phenomenal, as is his reputation. Finishing it, I found it uplifting, full of hope, and would to read more of these characters. Thanks Jeffery for making my day and week!!! And JD Jackson is a fantastic narrator!

Deaver delivers

This fast-paced story is a good for an audio production. Because listening to audio is much slower than reading print, a listener has more opportunity to make predictions about where the story is going and what will happen when the character’s plot lines collide. Even though you know Deaver is famous for plot twists, the outcome is still surprising—and also forces you to think about the deeper issue about making assumptions. (Especially since the listener has probably been clinging to the same assumptions for an hour, and will be, of course, wrong on almost all counts.) A well-crafted work, presented well.

Good Short Story

The story definitely makes you question the assumptions you made in the first part about what happens in the second part!

Did not like

Did not care for the way the story progressed. I guess, just not my 'cup of tea'.

Short, but a great story.

Book had some twists & turns I didn’t expect, I enjoyed them & was surprised. Some parts had me holding my breath and praying certain things wouldn’t happen. Great short story.

It Ends Well

It started slow. As a matter of fact, one of the themes, stereotyping, almost made me out the book down. But I hung in there and it turned out to be a good listen. Thanks
