Description

After the Renegade mission by the crew of the starship Flying Dutchman, the UN Expeditionary Force thought Earth was safe for hundreds of years, at least.

After there was trouble on the home front, and the president had to authorize a nuclear strike on an American city, UNEF decided they did need the Merry Band of Pirates again.

So, the Flying Dutchman is sent out on a simple recon mission. But for the pirates, nothing is ever simple, and their mission will become Armageddon.

Hammered through it in two days

I couldn't stop listening. Listened at work, in the car, and while relaxing before bed.
Truly some of three most emotional story in the series, but it's hard not to grow attached to characters after so many books.
Side note, whatever book in the series will be there last needs to be called "AMF". :)

NOT ALL CANADIANS TALK LIKE THAT!!

Awesome book. Only thing I thought was a little annoying was how Fray talked. Especially how he later goes on to say she's from Ontario....EH

Love the story...

I have been reading enthusiastically every book in the series and love the narration and entertainment. I feel that is about time it all converges and brings the series to a graceful end. For the first time while reading the series I was tempted to skip some parts. But I still recommend this book!

Pulled it out of the fire!

OK, I wasn't really in the fire.

Armageddon was headed down the usual path where Joe and Skippy have to find some dingus and fix some problem and ultimately succeed while making smarmy masturbatory jokes along the way. I was thinking this was going to be another mostly entertaining version of this cycle. Those elements are ever present for sure, but the right amount....and then...as Joe would say "Ho- ly shit".

Armageddon goes from another solid 6/10 to a 9/10. I have reviewed previous books and not given great reviews so I'm not just pushing the 5 for every book.

Without giving anything away Mr. Alanson really pushes the ball forward on all fronts. The ending and character development for all the main characters (that survive) really show how the author has evolved as well as the characters. I can't wait for the next.

Excellent job.

PS...Joss Whedon called...he wants his dialogue back. ;)

Out.Standing.

I want sure how you could continue to top each book but Craig Alanson has done it. Most excellent voice work from R.C. Bray once again. You can expect twist and turns and an outstanding setup for the future. I cannot wait for the next one, the suspense is killing me!

I really loved R.C.Bray. The story is, eh, good?

Remember when Skippy was "meh"? That was a way better story than this book. For serious though, this story felt like a novella, instead of a full book.

I am waiting for the next book, but if it's like this one... I'll probably skip it for something else.

Great and not so great

This continuation of the expeditionary force was hilarious and highly enjoyable like all the rest but for the love of god move the story forward. Every time a new book comes out I’m like yes finally there’s been enough piddling around with minor struggles now I’m sure craig will explore the Elders plot line and see where skippy came from but it never happens. Another story continuing seven books of a cliff hanger. Find the elders!

My patience is running thin!

After 8.5 books, this is where we're at? About the only thing holding my attention is the banter between Bishop and Skippy. Seriously, where are these books going?? The first few were fun, but now it just feels like were running from one emergency to another and the overall story isnt progressing. With all the things the Merry Band of Pirates are doing, what is the rest of the galaxy doing? Playing pinochle? Bishop is the captain of a pirate ship, and he's already committed mutiny once, yet he's still hell bound on following the rules of people who don't even care if he's around. Dude, wake up! It's time to see this plot pick up. You have multiple avenues this can go. I'm almost having more enjoyment imagining where I'd take the story at this point.

I can not fault the performance of Mr. Bray. Once again he's done a great job with his narrating! I never get tired of hearing him bring the story to life!

author got lazy this time.

the first six hours can be summed up as the writer using material from the previous books as filler. EVERY. DAMN. CHAPTER. in the first 6 hours is Joe and someone having flashbacks. it is like a sitcom where about episode 15 or 16 they do a season recap.

that being said RC Bray is phenomenal once again and the stuff after 6 hours is totally worth getting. sorry Craig but you know this is a lazy attempt.

So many writing tropes I can't keep up....

I'm done. I'm so tired of Alanson's juvenile writing skills. Every story is the same. Threat followed by an hour of poor exposition explaining why it can't be addressed, followed by Joe Bishop having an epiphany in the middle of eating and saving the day while Skippy curses Joe's monkey brain. There are so many MacGuffins in this series that it boggles my mind. Every story has one or two major "we need X to do Y" scenarios. In a series so lacking in character development, you would think we could drop this garbage in lieu of some actual intrigue or story. Instead it's rinse and repeat, over and over again.

The only reason this series remains interesting is because of R.C. Bray. If it weren't for him, this series would be toast. Honestly, I could listen to R.C. Bray read the owners manual from my car and I would be entertained. That doesn't say much for Alanson honestly...

I will not spend another dime on this story. I'm done.

R. C. Bray is amazing as ever. But...

Loved R. C. Bray vocal talent as always. However the story is getting old.
Character development is painfully slow and the story dosent seem to be changing much either. Earths in is endangered, the pirates save it. Rinse and repeat.

If only someone better got the same idea

I'm thoroughly disappointed with the story and repetitiveness of Mr. Alanson. If only a better writer was able to stumble upon the same idea and characters like Skippy and Joe.. or if Alanson were able to follow interesting paths and ideas within his own story.. this would be a masterpiece. Instead of that is at best only a meeh book. Don't think I will listen to the next one!

Schmayybe move the plot forward

While I always enjoy Skippy and the gang, until the last hour of the book it felt like lazy writing... very repetitive. Sorry Craig - I really love this series and the majority of your work but it's true. Bring on the elders already.

Best book yet

My new favorite book of the series. I don’t want to give away spoilers but this had the most depth of character and added some realism to a largely fantasy based series. Love the series, love the narrator, cannot wait until the next book comes out.

Craig Alanson brought the goods!

I've enjoyed every book in this series. After book 7, I feared that the series was getting a little stale. And then Armageddon smacks you in the face! This is one of the top 3 books in the series. #iaimtomisbehave
